JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: We are searching for an Algorithms, Prototyping and Integration (API) Department Head to join our Visualization and Decision Support Division (VDS) of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State.ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). The API Department is responsible for the rapid research and development of sensemaking & visualization capabilities that leverage access to unique and tactically relevant data sources to support the DoD/IC in optimizing their limited human capital and intelligence gain through automation. The mission of API is to transition these prototype capabilities within operationally relevant multiple security domains in compliance with DoD and IC secure computing requirements. The API Department Head, who reports to the head of the Visualization and Decision Support (VDS) Division, is expected to develop, lead, and support the execution of interdisciplinary research and development projects, as well as provide technical expertise on related projects given a successful track record of delivering excellent project results. This position may be filled as either a Research and Development Engineer or a non-tenure Research Faculty.
