What You Will Do:

We are currently seeking Transportation Management Center (TMC) Operations Specialist to work in the FDOT D3 Regional Control Room in Chipley, FL. The main responsibilities will be to manage FDOT traffic incident response to crashes and other highway incidents and emergencies with the primary goal of responder and motorist safety. Full-time, part-time, and hourly positions available.

  • Work in a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week operation with the primary goal of motorist safety
  • Operate access and control traffic management devices (CCTV, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), etc.) and other equipment to monitor major portions of the FDOT District 3 Interstate and State highway systems
  • Monitor first responder and law enforcement, including the Florida Highway Patrol, Communications and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), and radio communications
  • Activate appropriate response(s) to detected and/or reported incidents; including, but not limited to, dispatch of Road Ranger Service Patrols, location assistance to first responders and notification to the public
  • Generate, receive, and respond to calls pertaining to various persons/organizations/agencies
  • Record all appropriate Control Room activities in incident database
  • Create and submit internal Work Orders for equipment failures or malfunctions
  • When directed by the FDOT, function as a member of Emergency Response Team
  • Provide communication, coordination and response with law enforcement, including Florida Highway Patrol, Emergency Management, emergency responders, incident management entities, FDOT personnel and others.
  • Employ various software applications, including "SunGuide," running within the RTMC environment to control ITS field devices, monitor traffic flow, and perform data analysis
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of all data submissions in RTMC operator logs, reports and documentation
  • Provide guidance to responders and motorists during severe traffic related events
  • Post alerts, notifications and messages on the Florida "511 Traffic information system (FLATIS)"
  • Assist in coordinating responses to disasters and high profile special events that affect the roadway
  • Performs other related work as directed

Minimum Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience in a public safety, emergency management, transportation dispatch or similar environment is preferred
  • Prior knowledge of the SunGuide Software and related systems is preferred
  • Skills in interpersonal relationships and ability to work well within a diverse group
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports and correspondence
  • Ability to clearly communicate written and verbal information in English
  • Ability to take calls, dispatch on a radio or telephone and otherwise clearly communicate information over a radio system or network in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to use freeway management and other traffic control computer applications
  • Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast paced environment
  • Familiarity with FDOT D3 Interstates and local roadways preferred
  • Ability to use computers in a "Windows-based applications"
  • Ability to work alternate work schedules and be on-call as necessary
