Lead Software Engineer

Laerdal Labs is seeking a smart Software Engineer with strong foundational knowledge who is ready to take a step forward in their career. You will be working alongside a strong team of Software Engineers, QA Engineers and Product experts helping develop our industry leading platform. As a lead of the simulation control team, you'll be presented with new challenges as you help expand and improve our product offerings. Our software platform is a unique mix of technologies as we firmly believe in using the best technology for the job. Our primary tech stack includes ReactJS, NodeJS, PostgreSQL and the full suite of cloud technologies, but you'll be working in multiple environments to best interface with our simulators. Our engineers typically "own" features they're working on and build them from top-to-bottom, which means a solid understanding of core Object Oriented Programing (OOP) design, MVC, and other architectural concepts is a must.

We simply love providing a consumer level customer experience in healthcare, where all the complexities behind the scenes are just that: behind the scenes.

What we are looking for:

• 5+ years of experience in software development
  • At least 2-3 years with NodeJS
  • At least 2-3 years with cloud architecture, preferably AWS
  • At least 2-3 years leading a team of other engineers
• Comfort designing and building complex cloud application features or projects from the ground up
  • You've created the prototype for a major component and taken it all the way to production
  • Familiarity with various languages, patterns, or deployment strategies and able to compare and contrast them
  • Skill to write clean, performant, and safe code
• Strong OOP skills/knowledge that are language and platform independent.
  • That means you know the benefits and pitfalls of OOP design
• Solid understanding of modern software development and design.
  • Examples include relational database design, multithreaded applications, security, and asynchronous APIs
• Skill leading a team of two or more engineers to iteratively deliver features and bug fixes
• Experience reviewing code, mentoring, and giving quality feedback to more junior engineers
• Non-complacent and inquisitive mindset.
• Love for coding and a good challenge.
• Like the freedom and responsibility of owning what you're working on.
• Good oral and written communication skills, and a desire to share knowledge and collaborate with others.
• Pluses: BS in Computer Science or relevant engineering discipline, experience with C/C++, ReactJS, Golang, AWS CDK, AWS or similar cloud technologies, IoT, and a shared hatred of JIRA (sorry product managers!).
