Dartmouth Precollege Summer Scholars seeks to hire instructors to develop and teach a course in Entrepreneurship for our non-credit summer enrichment program designed for high school students ages 14-17. Each course can be taught by a single instructor or a team of instructors sharing responsibilities for developing and teaching the course. The program aims to provide high school students with a rigorous and immersive learning experience that mirrors the academic rigor of Dartmouth College. Courses are non-credit and offered to high school students in grades 9-11 in spring 2025 (ages 14-17), who are admitted to the program through a competitive application process. Class size will vary. Instructors are responsible only for the academic portion of the program; the residential components of the program are managed by a third-party partner whose staff designs and manages all out-of-classroom activities.

The position will be seasonal part-time, and based in Hanover, NH. In addition to salary, for non-Dartmouth affiliates coming from outside the Hanover area, Dartmouth Precollege can provide reimbursement of $100 per day (including two days before the first class day and one day after the last class day), up to a maximum of $1,300 for 8-day course, to partially offset the cost of lodging. While in session on campus, each class meets daily Monday through Thursday a total of approximately 5 hours per day, with 8 on-campus class days per session. A sample weekday schedule is outlined below.

Breakfast: 7-8:50am
Morning class session: 9:05-11:15am ( MWF) or 9:05-11:30am (TuTh)
Lunch: 11:30am-1pm
Afternoon class session: 1pm-4pm ( MWF) or 1:20-4:15pm (TuTh)

Instructors are present in both the morning and afternoon sessions on campus. The morning class session may be more direct instruction, while the afternoon class sessions would provide scholars the opportunity to work on projects and assignments under the supervision of the instructional team. The afternoon period may also include additional co-curricular activities and events, such as guest speakers, group projects, or other enhancements to the academic day, organized by the instructor as part of the course.
Position Purpose
Dartmouth Precollege Summer Scholars is an enriching summer program designed to offer high school students a unique educational experience, located on the picturesque campus of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. This program aims to provide high-achieving high school students with an opportunity to immerse themselves in an intensive and intellectually stimulating academic environment. Participants have the chance to engage in in-depth learning experiences, explore new subjects, and gain exposure to college-level instruction.
Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or equivalent.
  • Previous curriculum development and teaching experience at the college or high school level.
  • Strong subject-matter expertise and the ability to convey complex concepts effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching high-achieving high school students and a commitment to their academic growth.
  • Organizational and time management skills to effectively plan and deliver the curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in the applicant's given academic field, or equivalent combination of education and teaching experience.
  • Documented record of teaching excellence.
  • Previous teaching experience with high school students.
  • Familiarity with academic standards and culture at a selective liberal arts institution.

Schedule
The fully on-campus courses will run for a total of 8 instructional days per session, thus approximately 40 hours of structured academic time are expected per session.

Session 1

  • First day of class Monday June 30, 2025.
  • Last day of class Thursday July 10, 2025.
  • No classes held July 4. (8 instructional days)


Session 2
  • First day of class Monday July 7, 2025.
Last day of class Thursday, July 17, 2025.
No classes held on Friday, July 11. (8 instructional days)

Instruction does not occur on weekends, the July 4 holiday, or July 11. Participants typically arrive the Sunday before classes begin, and depart the day after classes end.

Key Accountabilities

  • Curriculum Development (25%): Develop a comprehensive curriculum for the identified course, ensuring it aligns with the program's objectives, a precollege audience, and the academic standards of Dartmouth College.


  • Instruction (40%): Conduct up to 5 hours of instruction per weekday during the on-campus program, delivering engaging and informative lessons that promote active learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The program is delivered across multiple sessions (5-8 instructional days each), and may be completely on-campus or a hybrid format (one week online starting July 7 for 2 hours daily and one week on campus meeting daily starting July 14). Applicants may be considered to teach more than one session depending on needs and availability. Class size will vary.
  • Classroom Management (20%): Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a culture of respect, collaboration, and academic excellence.
  • Collaboration (10%): Work collaboratively with program coordinators, other instructors, and staff to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
  • Student evaluation (5%): All instructors may be required to write a brief evaluation for each participant that describes their performance in the course. Rubrics will be provided.
