Job title: Alt-Host Bioprocessing Intern

Location: Marlborough, MA

Term: Minimum of six months to maximum of ten-month Internship starting February 2025 (some flexibility to start later).

The internship program at Alternative Host Bioprocessing unit at Sartorius Stedim North America, Corporate Research Labs focuses on Microbial strain engineering. This internship will be done under direct supervision of Principal investigator. The role mainly includes construction of DNA vectors and genetic manipulation of microbial organisms. Responsibilities also include preparing media and other reagents for the general lab activities and understanding general laboratory management.

What you will accomplish together with us:

  • This role involves conducting experiments under the supervision and direction of the Principal Investigator of the project.
  • Support in molecular cloning techniques, such as PCR, DNA extraction and purification, and plasmid assembly, Agarose gel electrophoresis etc
  • Transformation and screening of microbial transformants for productivity.
  • Maintaining microbial cultures, preparing media and reagents, and contributing to the general practice of the lab.
  • Apply bioinformatics tools for DNA sequence analysis and gene editing design.
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain the cleanliness of the lab.
  • Record experimental activities on a day-to-day basis, maintain accurate laboratory records, prepare reports, and present findings to the team.

What will convince us:

  • Masters/ presently pursuing PhD degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Chemical / Biological engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related fields.
  • Knowledge on sterile microbial culture techniques and molecular biology techniques would be an advantage.
  • Background in Molecular biology/ Microbiology with a particular focus on handling bacteria, yeast and filamentous fungi would be preferrable.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; focused and hardworking; sensible and adaptable attitude preferred.
