Job Description

The facilities core at the Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research (LIDR) is seeking a highly skilled Research Engineering Technician I to join our staff. Candidates should possess a high aptitude for troubleshooting and repairing component-based systems with an eagerness to learn and understand the complexity of facility related equipment servicing a High Containment Laboratory. The goal for this position is to increase LIDR's capacity to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair technical equipment.

Key Duties Performed by This Position Will Include:

  • Perform highly complex/skilled work in troubleshooting and repairing technical equipment.
  • Conduct performance assurance and preventative maintenance on complex equipment.
  • Coordinate with and/or assist cross functional campus support teams on LIDR related tasks.
  • Coordinate with and/or assist LIDR scientific research cores on facilities and equipment related tasks.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and manufacturers regarding parts, repairs, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with LIDR facility decontamination efforts as applicable.
  • Provide schematic and technical expertise to building/lab redesign.

Shift

7:00 - 4:00 PM Monday - Friday

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

4 years' experience in related field. Prior experience in High Containment Labs or work experience in the electrical, controls, HVAC, or low/medium pressure steam fitting fields preferred.

Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools

Ability to interpret schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.

Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures in laboratory environments.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Hiring Range: $23.00 -29.00 per hour
Grade: GGS-008
