About The Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience

The Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience (IBB, research.gatech.edu/bio) is located in Georgia Tech's thriving Bio Quad. IBB serves to catalyze new research and education initiatives at the interface of bioengineering and bioscience and integrate the broad range of bio-related activities throughout Georgia Tech and its partner institutions.

This position is within IBB's National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center (ERC) for Cell Manufacturing Technologies (CMaT) and Marcus Center for Therapeutic Cell Characterization and Manufacturing (MC3M) - https://cellmanufacturingusa.org; all fast-paced environments.

Atlanta, GA

The Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience (IBB)'s CMaT and Marcus Center at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for an extension professional position in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, and biomedical engineering.

Applicants will be considered at the Senior/Principal Extension Professional rank (open rank). The candidate will lead and manage an industry engagement strategy that results in expansion and deepening of the unit's relationships across target companies and other business sector organizations.

This role will also facilitate industry involvement in, and support for, a regional network of businesses engaged with the unit on priority topics and initiatives. These relationships and networks will help to advance the unit's industry engagement program and create a steady state of business sector partners that support achievement of unit academic goals in research and education while elevating external visibility and impact.

This position will interact on a regular basis with: faculty, staff, and external industry partners. This position typically will advise and counsel: faculty, staff, and external industry partners. This position is expected to travel to industry sites and industry, National Science Foundation, and Center for Cell Manufacturing Technologies (CMaT) meetings as necessary.

This role is remote with onsite trainings and meetings when scheduled on Georgia Tech's Atlanta, Georgia campus.

• Develop, implement, and manage a business partnership strategy with support from unit leadership and building on existing foundation.
• Achieve long-term corporate affiliation and partnership objectives including, but not limited to, Advisory Boards, research funding opportunities, unit networking/engagement priorities and faculty-industry engagement.
• Represent the unit at business events and articulate value proposition to industry targets.
• Navigate administrative requirements and develop supporting outreach and communication materials.
• Liaise with career services to provide information about relevant company-sponsored internships, coops, and job opportunities.
• Identify and initiate discussions with potential partner companies based on program fit and industry. Engage with senior leadership of companies, establishing relationships across multiple stakeholders inside and outside of Georgia Tech.
• Work with GT Development officers to arrange meetings with potential and existing partner companies. Solicit and track monetary gifts for the T&M program.
• Present and explain benefits for new companies and ensure that existing partnerships are being well maintained in terms of recruitment and ROI on student projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Senior Extension Professional

• A Master's degree in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or related area, and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
• A Master's degree in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or related area, and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
• A Doctoral degree in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or related area, and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Extension Professional

• A Master's degree in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or related area, and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
• A Doctoral degree in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or related area, and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

• 2-3 years relevant project management or customer-related or product development experience in industry, non-profit, or academia.
• Skills include working knowledge in cell therapeutics or related sciences, excellent interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to engage with a broad range of industry members; ability to organize and set priorities; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; ability to serve as a facilitator; skills in strategic thinking; and knowledge of, and relationships with, industry contacts.
• Strong communication and project management skills, as well as an ability to navigate large, complex organizations in pursuit of unit goals.

• Salary up to $170,000 per year with full benefits.
