The Dir, Clinical Social Services is a New Jersey Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who has the authority and accountability for managing the provision of clinical social services and allied counseling services. Develops and implements departmental goals, policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Director Clinical Social Services at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Develops, implements, and monitors Clinical Social Services policies and procedures.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings with all CCMs and Allied Counselors.
  • Represents Clinical Social Services and Allied Counseling Services at committee meetings.
  • Oversees assignment of cases and distribution of services provided by the CCM float, on-call, and agency social services personnel.
  • Oversees adequate staffing and scheduling of allied counseling services staff.
  • Acts as consultant to problematic clinical and system wide issues involving CCM and ACS staff.
  • Collaborates with the Unit Directors with administrative supervision of CCM and ACS staff and acts as a resource to CCM supervisors in the clinical supervision of all LSW's and LAC's.
  • Provides oversight in continuing the development of discharge planning resources.
  • Coordinates and supervises the Clinical Social Services departmental performance improvement programs; provides reports to the Clinical Quality committee as scheduled.
  • Interviews and hires new CCMs and ACS counselors for the units in collaboration with the Unit Directors.
  • Completes weekly reports and quarterly evaluations of LAC and LSW supervisory sessions as required. Provides necessary documentation for the licensing of each CCM.
  • Coaches and assists in the orientation and development of all CCMs and ACS counselors in the areas of professional development.
  • Develops, in conjunction with staff, annual competency standards to ensure quality patient care.
  • Evaluates educational needs of clinical staff and coordinates staff development programs.
  • Participates in the initial and annual performance appraisals of the CCMs and ACS counselors in conjunction with the respective unit director.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, seminars and workshops.
  • May carry one to four cases, as necessary, in high census situations.
  • Coordinates graduate field instruction programs for social work interns, allied counselor interns and master's level counseling interns from affiliated schools. Acts in the capacity of field instructor and supervises field instruction by others.
  • Maintains professional network and builds alliances with coordinators of Field Placement at various institutions of higher learning in the tri-state area to attract and retain the best qualified interns.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, seminars and workshops.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work.
  • Minimum five years experience in a leadership or supervisor position.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • NJ Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
  • Board Certified Clinical Supervisor.
