Job Description Summary
The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment ( CFWE) at Auburn University, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture ( USDA) Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory ( FPL), is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow. The successful candidate will work on a research project aligned with FPL's R&D efforts under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Wildfire Crisis Strategy Program. Key research areas include biochar production cost analysis, assessment of economic and environmental benefits, market analysis for biochar, and investigating stakeholder knowledge and attitudes. The role also involves coordinating field experiments with contractors, managing data collection, and collaborating closely with team members and stakeholders. This is a grant-funded position with an initial two-year appointment, including fringe benefits, and potential for extension based on performance and funding availability. The preferred start date is negotiable, with the position available as early as January 14, 2025.
Minimum Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Forest Economics, Natural Resource Economics, Environmental Economics, Economics, or a closely related discipline at time of employment.
  • Desired qualification includes:
  • Prior research experience in designing and implementing survey instruments, conducting economic cost-benefit analyses, and applying econometric models with panel data.
  • Expertise in market analysis and input-output modeling.
  • A strong history of scholarly publications.
  • Experience with forest production and management practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Multitasking effectively and collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools, including SAS, STATA, MATLAB, R, or Python.
  • The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time of appointment and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
