Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The School of Health and Applied Human Sciences ( SHAHS), within the College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW), seeks an outstanding colleague for a 9-month, full time, position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (both tenure-track) in the school's online accelerated Master of Healthcare Administration program beginning August 2025. Upon hire, dependent on programmatic needs, the successful candidate may serve as the Healthcare Administration Program Coordinator with specified term limits. Academic Program Coordinators are 9-month faculty with a workload assignment for administrative activities.
Rank at appointment is dependent on qualifications relative to University and School standards. The successful candidate will join a talented and committed Healthcare Administration faculty serving approximately 450 Healthcare Administration graduate students, have a wide-ranging Healthcare Administration background, and be able to teach a variety of graduate-level courses. The accelerated curriculum operates on a 7-week model whereby semesters are divided into two 7-week terms across the academic year. Moreover, depending on rank and yearly workload allocation, the successful candidates will conduct research, publish articles, write grants, mentor students, and provide community engagement and service to the program, school, college, university, and profession.
There is an expectation of residency in the Wilmington, NC, area. The possibility to work mostly remotely from a local location is determined upon mutual agreement with hiring academic unit and appropriate administrative approvals, with the understand that on-campus presence for some meetings and events will be mandatory. The duration of any remote work arrangement is at the discretion of the university and the hiring academic unit.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Healthcare Administration/Management, or Business Administration/Management (with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework closely related to Healthcare Administration/Management), Health Services Management, or a related field from a regionally accredited program.
  • Evidence of previous successful teaching experience in a Healthcare Administration program in higher education.
  • Demonstrated potential to develop a successful research program and grant activity in Healthcare Administration.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who have the following qualifications:

  • Successful research program and grant activity with a clear research trajectory.
  • Evidence of successful online teaching experience (preferably in an accelerated program).
  • Recognized accomplishment in teaching and the scholarship of teaching related to the position.
  • Experience with CAHME accreditation standards and competency-based education.
  • Two or more years' experience in the Healthcare field noting recognized accomplishments.
  • Relevant licenses/certifications (i.e., CPA, FACHE, FACMPE) in the Healthcare field.
  • Active membership in professional societies (i.e., AUPHA, MGMA, ACHE, NAHSE).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with constituents across the College and University.
  • Ability to work in an electronic paperless environment utilizing multiple digital platforms and applications (i.e., learning management systems, assessment platforms, audio visual platforms, file management software, and social media) to complete work functions.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Master of Healthcare Administration ( MHA) program is housed in the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences ( SHAHS) within the College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS) at UNC Wilmington. The MHA curriculum is a 100% online asynchronous accelerated program ( OAP) that prepares graduates for administrative roles in healthcare settings.

The roles and responsibilities of the successful candidate will reflect a strong commitment to professional practice, community, and regional engagement and impact activities, and applied scholarship related to professional practice.

The Healthcare Administration program is housed within the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences ( SHAHS) which is a large and growing academic unit with over 1750 students and 58 full time faculty. See: https://uncw.edu/shahs

The School of Health and Applied Human Sciences ( SHAHS) currently has six undergraduate degree programs:

  • Public Health
  • Exercise Science
  • Healthful Living and Fitness Education
  • Tourism, Recreation, & Sport
  • Recreation Therapy
  • Respiratory Therapy


The SHAHS also has Graduate degree programs in:

  • Athletic Training
  • Healthcare Administration
  • Gerontology with 4+1 options with Exercise Science, Psychology, Public Health, Recreation Therapy, and Tourism, Recreation & Sport.
  • Masters of Arts in Teaching in Physical Education and Health (MAT) in conjunction with the Watson College of Education
  • Masters of Education concentration in Physical Education and Health (MED) in conjunction with the Watson College of Education

The SHAHS is also home to the Physical Activity and Wellness program ( WPA/L) which delivers courses that fulfill University Studies requirements and serves 2,000 students per semester.
