Dental Hygiene Program

The Department of Communication Sciences and Oral Health (CSOH) offers degrees in communication sciences, speech-language pathology, education of the deaf, and dental hygiene. Housed in the College of Health Sciences, the CSOH department has 26 full-time tenured, tenure-track, and clinical faculty members who work together to support the missions of the programs, department, and university. Our faculty members are engaged in a variety of teaching, research, and service efforts and they provide clinical supervision in our three clinics (the Dental Hygiene and Speech, Language and Hearing Clinics on the Denton campus and the Stroke Center on the Dallas campus).

The Position/Job Summary:

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Clinical Professor include course development, didactic and clinical instruction, scholarship, and professional service. In the area of teaching, the role involves maintaining up-to-date clinical expertise, demonstrating excellence in all aspects of instruction, actively participating in course development and evaluation, and mentoring students. In research, the Assistant Clinical Professor is expected to share clinical expertise with colleagues and students in clinical settings while contributing to evidence-based practice. In terms of service, the role includes making meaningful contributions to the mission of the department, college, and university, actively engaging in professional and community organizations, and supporting student recruitment efforts.

Work is performed in a university dental hygiene clinic. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment is routinely required. Physical exertion includes standing, carrying equipment and supplies, reaching overhead, and regularly lifting to 50 pounds. Occasional travel to off-site locations requires the ability to drive and use a private vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified applicants will hold a master's degree in Dental Hygiene or a related area, be licensed by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners as a Registered Dental Hygienist, and have a minimum of five years of clinical practice experience, in a CODA accredited dental hygiene program.
