Work Schedule
8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Monday - Friday. May be required to work other hours based on building hours. May be required to work in other dining service buildings as necessary.
Primary Purpose of Position
Building Services staff will be responsible for general housekeeping and floor care; minor maintenance; room set ups; assuring that safety instructions, rules and policies are followed and building is properly secured. The BEST must work with University staff and partners to assure customers are served in a clean, safe environment.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Job Duties

  • Clean and care for Prospector and other Dining Services buildings, offices, studios, and other State buildings.
  • Maintain equipment, return to designated storage areas, and keep in good working order.
  • Providing excellent customer service to the students, faculty, staff and business partners.
  • Compile and maintain checklists and report needs to management.
  • Assist the management in testing and making recommendations on supply and equipment purchases.
  • Maintain various types of floor surfaces to include vacuuming, spotting, and gum removal.
  • Follow established Business Affairs, UNC Charlotte, and State policies and procedures.

Other Work Responsibilities

  • Use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in housekeeping, recycling, event support, and exterior litter removal functions.
  • Perform work that is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments.
  • Perform work that is subject to close review and inspection, with problems and special assignments not covered by instructions being referred to a supervisor.
  • Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work. Duties are repetitive in nature and include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture, walking from building to building, operating heavy cleaning equipment, wearing a backpack vacuum, and delivering large quantities of housekeeping supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or delegated.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Experience with housekeeping in a food service or University setting.
  • Previous experience/technical skills in the Building Environmental Services field including equipment preferred.
  • Excellent customer service experience.
  • Displays positive, professional behavior ability to act independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong decision making skills, attention to details and adaptability needed.
  • Must be able to lift and move furniture.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications
  • Where applicable, must be eligible for required certification.
