About the Office of General Counsel: TDEC's Office of General Counsel has approximately 35 team members who support TDEC's mission through the Talent, Dedication, Engagement, and Character of its staff who provide exceptional services as partners and facilitators to both internal and external clients and stakeholders. OGC is seeking an associate counsel. Job Overview: This position requires a Tennessee law license and a minimum of three years of experience as an attorney. Experience in transactions and contracts is preferred. Attorneys in OGC are offered flexibility to primarily work remotely. The selected candidate will report to their assigned TDEC office one day per week, attend a monthly meeting at the Nashville office, and participate in other in-person meetings as needed. Key Responsibilities: Develop legal opinions and guidance for the Department on a wide variety of legal topics including constitutional, property, contract, procurement, hospitality, and regulatory law. Serve as a primary legal point of contact for the Bureau of Conservation to address questions related to the operation of Tennessee State Parks. Support the Office of Energy Programs on policy creation, grant administration, contracting, procurement, and regulatory compliance. Review and draft contracts, leases, easements, and grant program documents. Draft and review rules and policies. Review and analyze the effects of proposed state and federal legislation. Provide proactive service to TDEC divisions, developing a deep understanding of the client's operations and legal needs. Support boards and commissions attached to TDEC. Collaborate with other attorneys within TDEC. Handle special projects quickly and efficiently. Minimum Qualifications: Valid Tennessee law license. Required Experience: Three years of experience as an attorney. Experience in transactions and contracts is preferred.
