Job Summary: This position is located at Point Mugu NAS, CA. The Satellite Operator I will report operationally to the SOMSS Infinity Site/Program Manager be assigned work from the Infinity Satellite Operator Lead and functionally report to the SOMSS InDyne Inc. Program Manager. The Satellite Operator I is responsible for real-time interactive spacecraft commanding and data capture activities for assigned spacecraft contacts. In performance of their responsibilities, the Satellite Operator will perform telemetry, tracking, and control functions for assigned satellites including receiving and processing satellite telemetry and mission data. They will also upload commands to the spacecraft according to contact plans and verify spacecraft response to these commands.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Performs on-console tasks include ground resources assignment and ground system configuration and control aka Ground Controller (GC) functions, telemetry monitoring, satellite commands entry and verification, ground system and satellites alarms monitoring and acknowledgement.
  • Perform EHF SATCOM terminal data operations to ensure update adaptation data is available to all fleet users or as requested by individual units.
  • Process Ephemeris data provided by the GFS engineering support contractor and generate Adaptation data.
  • Maintain and manage the NESP Adaptation and Ephemeris Data Support System.
  • Perform first-level troubleshooting of ground systems anomalies utilizing government approved checklists and procedures.
  • Perform initial ground systems and satellite anomaly response by identifying and acknowledging anomalies via the alarm monitoring system.
  • Perform initial (first response) ground systems problem resolution, responding to ground systems and network problems and taking necessary initial corrective action to ensure timely problem recognition and resolution.
  • Notify the SWC of any satellite or ground system alarms and any action(s) that may be required to resolve the alarm.
  • Notify the SWC if additional personnel other than the contractor personnel are required to support anomaly resolution.
  • Coordinate with the SWCs any on-console activities required to configure the satellite and payload in a safe state pending anomaly resolution.
  • Document and maintain Ground Systems contingency procedures.
  • Respond to and take action to identify and resolve other problem-related events from facility and equipment alarms to include security, fire, and malfunctioning equipment.
  • Participate in the Quick Look and ORB processes and provide all data requested by the ORB chairperson.
  • Attend and collaborate with the SWC, Satellite Engineers, Orbital Analysts, and Network Systems personnel to coordinate and resolve conflicting schedule requirements and optimize resource usage.
  • Submit the consolidated Program Action Plan to 22 Space Operations Squadron (22SOPS).
  • Perform mission planning, long-term and real-time scheduling functions to modify, add, or delete supports in coordination with the SWC.
  • Initiate and process Electronic Satellite Schedule Change Requests (ESSCR) and Downtime Requests as documented and approved by the government DGR.
  • Execute the EAP or COOP to ensure continuity of critical satellite operations.
  • Review and recommend changes in writing, to EAP and COOP during tabletop reviews and operational rehearsals to validate the plan.
  • Deploy contractor personnel to other detachments in support of extended COOP when approved by the Operations and Training Department Head.
  • Comply with all Key Management Infrastructure (KMI) and Local requirements
  • Handle and ensure security of all COMSEC material and equipment issued to perform operations and maintenance.
  • Provide two-person integrity to meet security requirements for some specific security operations, in accordance with CMS-1 series.
  • Receive, transfer and return of cryptographic equipment and physical keying material held by the local element.
  • Performs other duties not limited to general housekeeping, safety and environmental practices, complies with security policies and PWS directive publications, completes ancillary training and participates in exercises.


Educational/Training Requirements:



  • Education High School diploma
  • Successfully complete the NAVSOC Satellite Operator Training Program and obtain Level II Certification within 6 months


Required Skills/Experience:



  • 2-5 years' experience performing military satellite operations and/or military sensor operations


Preferred Skills:



  • Completion of civilian or US Military MILSATCOM or equivalent training/certification
  • Experience with Simple Key Loder (SKL)
  • Competency using PuTTY or another terminal emulator, serial console and network file transfer application


Work Environment:



  • Must be able to lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • The job is normally performed indoors in an industrial setting, with computer rooms and numerous monitors.


Physical Demands:



  • Walking, siting, typing, bending, climbing and lifting items as required within position requirements


Clearance Requirements:



  • Currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain the proper US DoD issued security clearance, which requires US Citizenship. Security clearance eligibility may be discussed during the interview phase.
  • Employment and start date is contingent upon the candidate receiving the required US DoD issued interim security clearance.
