DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accounting Assistant, you will provide clerical and accounting support in the inmate accounting section of the institution's business office. You will perform bookkeeping duties, including recording, reviewing, classifying, and processing inmate transactions. Other duties include preparing and issuing release forms and notifications when inmates are released; refunding prepaid phone time to the inmate's account; reviewing lists of personal property and retrieving items to be disbursed to inmates upon release; and performing miscellaneous accounting transactions and reconciliations. In addition, you will type memos, provide account summaries, and return telephone inquires. Ideally, you will have working knowledge of computer software programs, including QuickBooks.

- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per work week
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
- An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirement:
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
