As a Transportation Construction Inspector in Engineering District 3-0, you will oversee highway construction projects to ensure compliance with construction codes, plans, standards, and specifications. You will monitor the placement of cement concrete, bituminous concrete, and drainage materials. Strong communication skills will help you build relationships with department personnel, government agencies, legislators, and the public to ensure smooth project management. In this role, you will inspect construction phases, verify grades and elevations with contractors and surveyors, and conduct compaction tests on soils and aggregates. You will complete master diary entries, perform calculations, estimate quantities and costs, and maintain project documentation. Your problem-solving skills and expertise will enable you to address field issues, compile photographs, prepare sketches, and create detailed inspection summaries.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• This position is vendor-controlled. Work hours may vary to meet operational needs.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) ad-hoc, as approved, after successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
• Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth title); or

• Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth titles); or
• One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

• This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
