What you'll do

As the GVP of Engineering, you will be responsible for driving the Engineering organization for all our Business to Individuals (B2I) efforts as well as several key platform services that power multiple products. You will lead a team which is responsible for operating, architecting and building key products, features and infrastructure that runs high availability services that our customers and their businesses globally depend upon. You will also drive several engineering modernization efforts to prepare the stack for the next level of growth and efficiency.

This role will partner across multiple teams (e.g., engineering, product, support, security, compliance, customer success) to enable deeper integration points which in turn will result in more rapid innovation. Docusign is in the midst of a technology and cultural transformation, transitioning from a Private Cloud Infrastructure to the Public Cloud (Azure), and you will play a key role in this transition, driving the evolution of our products, systems and engineering culture.

This critical role will require strong leadership skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, strong change management skills and a principled, rigorous approach. Your deep, hands-on expertise in operating high scale services and Cloud Engineering architectures and practices, in public cloud and data center environments, will be instrumental in building and delivering high-performance, reliable, and scalable solutions to support our products and services.

We are looking for a strategic and execution oriented engineering executive with a proven track record of operating internet scale services and delivering market leading innovation, at scale for leading SaaS products.

This position is a people manager role reporting to the Chief Technology Officer.

Responsibility

  • Lead the engineering and operations of the private and public cloud infrastructure upon which all Docusign services run
  • Manage cost and procurement for a large scale cloud operation
  • Lead the transformation and modernization of Docusign's internal developer platform and operational tooling
  • Deliver foundational technical architecture for service infrastructure that will enable our products to deliver groundbreaking innovation at internet scale
  • Formulate long term DevOps and public cloud technology vision and strategy that enables Docusign to deliver software rapidly and cost effectively
  • Dive deep into technology and be the forefront of the latest tools, technologies, and strategies to help evaluate, prototype, and introduce them to our team
  • Hire, grow and lead a world class engineering team as a magnet for hiring and developing great talent
  • Be a carrier and role model of our culture of high performance and innovation
  • Champion strong fundamentals of reliability, resiliency, data privacy, security, and compliance
  • Use your passion for continuous improvement to build a learning organizations that keeps up with the state of the art, and be an example and mentor to your team

Job Designation

Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation)

What you bring

Basic

  • 15+ years of combined software development management experience across multiple languages and frameworks or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years leading software organizations over 100 people or equivalent experience

Preferred

  • Extensive experience leading SRE organizations
  • Demonstrated track record of leading geographically dispersed teams
  • Experience with large data ecosystems and data privacy, quality and lifecycle issues
  • Demonstrated track record of being a change agent, leaving every team and process better than you found it
  • Deep expertise in operating high scale, highly available (99.99+) cloud services
  • Prior experience with Azure
  • Executive level engineering management in a hi tech company
  • Extensive experience with major cloud services at scale (i.e., one or all of AWS, Azure and GCP)
  • Strong architectural insights with critical thinking
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to work with C level internally and externally
  • Dynamic people leadership in a diverse environment building extraordinary engineering teams
  • Operational rigor and discipline along with cost management
  • Experience in dealing with large scale end-to-end products and their entire lifecycle
  • Crisp, clear written and verbal communication
  • Ability to formulate and impactfully articulate long term vision
  • Strong bias for action and driving for results
  • Structured, rigorous and disciplined approach to delivering software
  • Flexible attitude with an ability to collaborate across multiple groups

Wage Transparency

Pay for this position is based on a number of factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:

California: $297,400 - $467,850 base salary

Illinois and Colorado: $283,100 - $399,875 base salary

Washington, New Jersey and New York (including NYC metro area): $283,100 - $420,025 base salary

Washington DC: $297,400 - $420,025 base salary

This role is also eligible for the following:

  • Bonus: Sales personnel are eligible for variable incentive pay dependent on their achievement of pre-established sales goals. Non-Sales roles are eligible for a company bonus plan, which is calculated as a percentage of eligible wages and dependent on company performance.
  • Stock: This role is eligible to receive Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
