Taft is seeking an experienced Employment and Labor Relations Paralegal to join our dynamic team of legal professionals in our Colorado Springs office.

The Colorado Springs office of Taft is seeking a dynamic paralegal to join its Employment & Labor Relations Department. This position is responsible for assisting other paralegals or attorneys in a variety of tasks involved with providing legal assistance to clients. Comfort and proficiency with technical systems and, specifically, with litigation support databases and trial presentation software is required. Candidates should have the ability and desire to learn new systems quickly and to use them on a high-volume basis. Experience with Relativity and Trial Director is highly desirable. The paralegal should have significant experience with all phases of trial. Above all, the paralegal must participate as a team member, responding to internal and external needs in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.

Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for document preparation with strong attention to formatting, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Conduct fact investigation and research, online and within case materials, retrieving and compiling information in an organized manner.
  • Prepares or assists in drafting and finalizing legal documents.
  • Manage and maintain document organization and case files, hard copy and electronic.
  • Utilize technical databases to upload, search, and retrieve supporting documents, exercising independent decision-making as well as making appropriate recommendations to the supervising attorney.
  • Monitor, prioritize, organize, and facilitate daily workflow and case management in order to meet project deadlines.
  • Compile arbitrator information, including Simpson reports, for arbitrators listed on FMCS panels for attorney review prior to selecting an arbitrator and communicate with Union counsel to schedule the attorneys' panel selection.
  • Schedule arbitration and trial preparation meetings in advance of scheduled arbitrations or trial.
  • Communicate with clients, Union counsel, and arbitrators to schedule arbitration hearings, including hearings in Colorado and other states that will require attorney travel.
  • Assist in arbitration hearing preparation, including drafting testimony outlines and exhibit lists, compiling documents to be utilized as hearing exhibits, and preparing hearing notebooks.
  • Maintain the arbitration awards database to include reviewing the awards and incorporating into the database the relevant issues addressed in the arbitration awards.
  • Provide constructive guidelines to other employees and representatives of third parties who do business with the firm.
  • Perform data entry for managing cases and maintaining documents in the firm's DMS system.
  • Provide a high level of general administrative support as required.
  • Maintain and submit time entries for the purpose of billing clients in a timely manner.
  • Effectively communicate with other legal and support departments/personnel and clients as determined by attorneys.
  • Understand and draft complex concepts into a legal instrument with superior writing skills.
  • Consistently meets 1500 hours expectations of the Firm. These hours consist of client billable, no-charge client, approved office management, and approved professional time.


Qualifications:



  • A Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
  • A certificate of completion from a Paralegal school or institute is preferred.
  • 2-5 years' litigation/employment law experience preferred.
  • Experience in labor arbitrations is preferred.
  • Familiarity with general processes, systems, philosophies, structure, methods, and approaches of mid-to-large sized firms.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Knowledge of legal and general research techniques and the use of software systems available for conducting legal research.
  • Knowledge of court rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of law office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of software systems such as Word, DMS, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the ability to establish good rapport with attorneys, clients, and other employees.

Taft offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, life, long term disability, flexible spending, 401K, Paid Time Off, paid holidays, bonus and more. The salary range for this position is $55,000-$80,000/year. Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted information based on work experience, education, and/or skill level.
