A Brief Overview
Care for patients with emergency, acute, and intensive care needs as a Respiratory Therapist (RT) at CHOP. Ranging from clinically competent to proficient practitioners, RTs demonstrate clinical leadership by contributing to standards of care and department goals, serving as preceptors for new employees, and participating in endeavors to advance respiratory care.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver proficient, holistic care under the direction of an ordering physician/clinician.

  • Document respiratory interventions, outcomes, and plan-of-care revisions.

  • Provide status reports and offer recommendations during patient care rounds.

  • Maintain therapeutic relationships with families, incorporating diverse needs and methods of coping into treatment plans.

  • Adhere to the American Association of Respiratory Care's Clinical Practices Guidelines and CHOP's organizational policies and procedures.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary committees, shared governance initiatives, research activities, and the development of policies and procedures.

  • Incorporate research and quality improvement findings into clinical practice.

  • Identify learning needs; propose and participate in educational activities; and apply new training, skills, and knowledge to daily work.

Education

  • Required: High school diploma/GED

  • Required: Technical diploma- Respiratory Care

  • Preferred: Associate degree- Respiratory Care

Experience

  • Required: At least one (1) year prior respiratory care experience

Licenses and Certifications

  • Required (upon hire): Respiratory Therapist (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board

  • Required (upon hire): Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

  • Required (upon hire): Basic Life Support (BLS)* and

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)* or

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)* or

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)*

  • Required (within 6 months): Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) - within 6 months; or

  • Required (within 24 months): Registered Respiratory Therapist - Neonatal Pediatric Specialty (RRT-NPS) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

*Must be issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (i.e., American Heart Association or Red Cross).
