Job Description

The Director of Business Development will lead all business development initiatives for the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR). This pivotal role is responsible for engaging customers, creating and cultivating new business opportunities, and negotiating contracts and agreements. The Director will also supervise and oversee the Business Development team, including the Customer Service function, ensuring alignment with MURR's mission and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Plan and direct business development activities in alignment with organizational priorities.
    • Establish and implement short- and long-term business strategies to achieve MURR's objectives.
    • Develop strategic business goals and ensure they are integrated into the MURR Nextgen enterprise.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Supervise and mentor the Business Development team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.
    • Provide clear direction, set performance goals, and oversee the execution of team initiatives.
  • Customer Engagement & Relationship Management:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, industry leaders, and stakeholders.
    • Direct client relationship management activities, establishing an extensive network of industry contacts.
    • Serve as a representative of MURR in industry organizations and public forums.
  • Business Development:
    • Identify emerging trends, track new and existing markets, and capitalize on growth opportunities.
    • Connect client needs with the capabilities of the university and MURR/MURR Nextgen enterprise.
    • Maintain expertise in the drug and diagnostic development process and related technical knowledge.
  • Contract Negotiations & Financial Oversight:
    • Lead contract negotiations, including the development of supply and service agreements.
    • Analyze, track, and negotiate modifications to contract terms and financial arrangements.
  • Market Research & Analysis:
    • Monitor industry trends to inform business strategy and decision-making.
    • Provide insights to leadership regarding market dynamics and competitive positioning.
  • Key Competencies:
    • Visionary Leadership: Ability to define and communicate a strategic vision and inspire others to achieve organizational goals.
    • Relationship Building: Strong capacity to engage with clients and industry leaders to foster long-term partnerships.
    • Analytical Skills: Proficient in analyzing market trends, financial terms, and business opportunities to inform decision-making.
    • Decision-Making: High degree of independent judgment and problem-solving to address complex challenges.

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel extensively to represent MURR, engage with customers, and participate in industry events.
Shift

Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm. Weekends and nights as required

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 7 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

7 years of experience with Business Development, Contract Negotiation, Finance, Accounting

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $100K - $185K per year
Grade: GGS 014
