Laboratory Assistant - Nights

Job Summary

• Obtains blood specimens (on or off site) following established procedures, established time frames, and safety requirements.
• Obtains specimens (on or off site) requiring special collection procedures following established procedures, established time frames, and safety requirements.
• Receives and distributes specimens in the laboratory.
• Processes specimens for testing, storage and send out to reference laboratories.
• Provides assistance to clients. Picks up and delivers specimens / reports to clients (may use company car) and acts as liaison between the client and the laboratory.
• Assists with vehicle maintenance and promotes safe driving.
• Diagnostic electrocardiogram on outpatients and Therapeutic INR QC and testing procedures.
• Performs testing procedures as indicated by section.

Qualifications

Education

High school education or equivalent. Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.

Experience

3 months phlebotomy experience, or a phlebotomy certificate, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood. 32 hours of clinical rotation is preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
