Your Opportunity

The position summary states the general nature and purpose of the job. Overall accountabilities are defined in this section.

The Heavy Equipment Operator position is responsible for grading, excavation, construction, and drainage projects typically located on farms, mills, and other Smithfield facilities. This may include: construction of building pads; drainage around fields; hog production facilities; road maintenance; renewable Natural Gas digesters and pipeline.

Core Responsibilities
  • Candidate will work in all weather conditions.

  • Operates heavy equipment including: backhoe, forklift, road grader, dozer, excavator, dump truck, skid steer.

  • Performs scheduled, periodic, preventative or emergency maintenance of production facilities.

  • Repairs, maintains, and installs underground utilities

  • Uses hand tools for excavation work

  • Performs periodic maintenance on all equipment

  • Rare but required emergency response calls may occur 24-hour a day including weekend

  • Follows safety and bio-security procedures

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, required.

  • Class A CDL is preferred, or willing to attain CDL

  • Interested candidates must be able to lift 70 lbs unassisted with full range of body motion

  • Ability to work well with others.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Basic surveying knowledge is preferred

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, grip, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

  • Must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for human consumption of high-quality pork products.
