The Orthopedic Technician II assists with the fabrication of splints/casting for various orthopedic injuries, and application of prefab braces for the back, upper, and lower extremities. This position also involves setup, adjustment, and education on medical equipment like crutches as well as providing application of traction devices, CPMs, and overhead frames. Working under general supervision, this role assists the physicians with recovery and treatment for orthopedic injuries.


Assists with applying and removing casts, splints, and other orthopedic appliances in accordance with the physician's instructions.
Applies and adjusts pre-fab braces for the back, upper extremity, and lower extremity with education to patients and staff on wearing and fit.
Adjusts and educates patient and families on proper use of crutches.
Helps assist ortho/emergency physicians with reductions by stabilizing the patient while MD performs procedure and post procedure applies splint and/or sling as needed.
Looks at x-rays to verify splint ordered is appropriate for type of injury and collaborates with MD as needed.
Documents all services performed completely and accurately within the patient's medical chart.
Completes appropriate documentation and procedures when ordering equipment from outside vendors.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:
Preferred: 2 yrs work in related field of nursing, emergency medicine, or MDs office. Knowledge of anatomy, trauma, and illness; Training is on the job

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required: BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
