Senior Simulation and Analysis Engineer - Cell Simulation and Modeling will contribute individually and as technical leader to develop models deepening the understanding of heat generation, prediction of failure modes and prediction of cycle life under various application conditions. The team member will collaborate with various Engineering teams to design, model, simulate, and implement innovative algorithms for our power and energy battery solutions.

You'll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:

  • Serve as an expert resource in the organization to develop best practices for cell level modeling and simulation.
  • Develop and maintain simulation tools for predicting battery performance, aging, and failure modes. Use simulation results to guide design decisions and optimize battery performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Develop and implement test plans to validate model accuracy and improve model fidelity.
  • Mathematical modeling of the electrochemical behavior of lithium-ion cells using reduced order models such as single particle model, P2D model, and 3D detailed and coupled multi-physics models.
  • Work on modeling capabilities development to enable simulation-driven design guidance in the early cell architecture phase.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to integrate models into battery design and development processes.
  • Mentor and coach, Design Engineers in best practices including task management, Gantt charts, root cause analysis.
  • Conduct literature review to identify topics of interest for internal research and development.
  • Identify new innovations and strategic opportunities while considering financial impact and competitiveness.
  • Effectively communicate and motivate up, down, and across the organization to a diverse range of technical and non-technical team members.
  • Drive urgency in project schedules and accountability for establishing and achieving key project cost and metrics that meet the organization's needs.

What TOOLS you'll bring with you:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Material Engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in related design field with 2+ years of relevant industry experience in physics-based modeling of thermo-electrochemical and mechanical performance/safety characterization of lithium cells.
  • Strong foundation in statistical design (D.O.E.) with relevant software experience?.
  • In-depth knowledge of Li-ion battery cell materials, operation, performance, and failure modes?.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement advanced electrochemical models in cell aging mechanism identification, characterization for Li-ion batteries.
  • Proficiency in programming and simulation tools such as Python, MATLAB, Simulink, and Ansys Products.
  • Strong technical communication skills and facility for communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Self-motivated, organized, efficient, process oriented with a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, exercises independent judgement and works well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% (domestically and internationally).

Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:

  • Master's Degree preferred with 2 years of professional experience using commercial software to develop muti-physics models of lithium-ion batteries?.
  • Background in simulation and analysis using Ansys Fluent, Icepack, Sherlock, Workbench for CFD and FEA analysis.
  • Expertise in numerical methods of optimization, statistical analysis, data evaluation, and visualization.
  • Proven ability to mentor the team as well as drive technical development roadmap.
  • Previous experience in leading a small engineering team is a plus.
