Salary Range: $77,300.00 to $128,800.00 (depending on experience, education, and certifications)

Job Summary

The Director of Interpreting Services is responsible for oversight and day-to-day management of a geographical area including At Home VRS, Community Interpreting and, potentially, a VRS Interpreting center.

The Director recruits and trains new interpreters while working in tandem with the Work Force Management team to ensure proper staffing for interpreting needs. The Director is expected to maintain a high level of professionalism that both inspires and motivates employees. They ensure a high quality of service relevant to interpreters' skills and adherence to Sorenson standards. The Director manages administrative duties in support of their interpreters and their areas, enhances the efficiency of their area of operations, and provides interpreting services as applicable. The Director of Interpreting promotes the highest-quality customer service for Sorenson customers and consumers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sorenson Directors are responsible for representing Sorenson with integrity, authenticity, and engaging leadership. They manage and oversee production and work performance of multiple employees while maintaining a flexible work schedule.




  • Ensure full compliance with Sorenson standards and policies, FCC regulations, state and local interpreting and labor regulations, and quality assurance expectations
  • Promote excellent customer service by overseeing customer feedback and interpreter processes
  • Verify that all required training is completed within allotted timeframe/s
  • Conduct annual reviews of employees as needed
  • Monitor productive output of individual employees in support of company efficiency goals
  • Counsel, coach, and mentor employees
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure adequate staffing
  • Support Human Resource directives (Workers Compensation, FMLA, corrective action, performance management, employee engagement etc.)
  • Basic troubleshooting of technical issues
  • Share and develop Sorenson's culture and values with the team
  • Represent Sorenson Communications in a positive manner
  • Effectively communicate with managers, colleagues, and employees
  • Train, coach, and support current and future Team Leads on leadership and company policies and procedures
  • Leverage company provided training and continuing education resources to develop employee talent
  • All responsibilities outlined in VRS Interpreting Centers and these additional responsibilities:
  • Complete room inspections to verify that each At Home Interpreter meets the FCC requirements to process VRS calls At Home
  • Verify that all required At Home training has been completed, and that the At Home agreement has been accepted by the Interpreter in LMS
  • Order At Home equipment setups for new hires
  • Maintain and monitor At Home TEAMs channels, both for the larger At Home group and individual teams.
  • All responsibilities outlined in VRS Interpreting Centers (apart from FCC adherence and company efficiencies) and these additional responsibilities:
  • Review SI incidentals to ensure accuracy in pay
  • Video Remote Interpreter (VRI) hiring and administrative needs
  • Oversee Administrative Services
  • Manage costs and supplies within assigned budget
  • Maintain center facilities where applicable
  • Ensure technical equipment is updated and functional
  • Recruiting and training
  • Actively seek qualified candidates
  • Collaborate with other departments to review, track, and disposition candidates
  • Collaborate with other departments to hire and train employees
  • Partner with local educational entities and Interpreter Training Programs (ITPs) to highlight interpreting careers and other opportunities within Sorenson
  • Other duties as assigned



Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages employees and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees.

Education

Minimum/Preferred Education Description

Preferred 4 Year / Bachelors Degree

Experience



  • Minimum Years of Experience Description
  • 5+ Years management experience.
  • 5+ years knowledge of the VRS Industry.
  • 10+ years ASL Interpreter (Deaf Interpreter/Hearing Interpreter) preferred.
  • 5 Professional Certifications.
  • 1 Membership in an interpreter-related professional association.
