Description

The primary function of this position is to perform a wide variety of complex, specialized, data entry tasks including those which require the use of judgment and initiative. The work performed by the incumbent has an immediate and direct impact to our revenue cycle. The ability to work independently under general supervision. The ability to operate computer systems, using word processing, database and software packages. The ability to operate multiple systems simultaneously, including various Electronic Health Records. Knowledge of the organization, programs, practices and procedures of the unit is central to the performance of the duties.

Examples of Duties

I. Clerical Duties 70% 1. Provides a broad range of complex clerical support for the Department of Pediatrics business unit and clinical operations that requires a high level of accuracy. 2. Utilizes a variety of computer software applications on a daily basis to process various paperwork. 3. Completes data entry of Pediatric Departmental hospital, NICU and other charges in Patient Keeper. 4. Ensure consistent collection and accurate documentation of patient demographic information which support patient care, downstream systems and the revenue cycle and which is required by SIUHC and Federal government guidelines. 5. Must perform with a high level of independence under general supervision. 6. Assist with compiling, summarizing and organizing patient and billing information from a variety of sources. 7. Assist with comparing data obtained from various software programs to clinic schedules, or hospital FIN sheets to assure billing for charges are not missed or duplicated. 8. Enters and posts clinic charges in CB per billing sheets obtained after coder review . Follows specific charge posting guidelines involving NOC #'s for immunization, exceptions for psych intern charges, special process for dietary charges, et c. 9. . Figures hash totals prior to posting charges in CB to assure batch is in balance. 10. Tracks and maintains orderly files for billing records. 11. Correspond with outlying hospital personnel to obtain information necessary to register patients for accurate charge capture. 12. Participate in the development of appropriate charge capture forms for internal and external use. 13. Attends clinical meetings as scheduled. 14. Reviews and analyzes clerical and billing clerk procedures in order to identify potential problem areas and develop a more streamlined processing procedure that increases efficiency while maintaining a high level of integrity within the unit. 15. Works Good Faith Estimate report per guideline. 16. Participate in the development of appropriate forms for internal and external use. 17. Present information in staff meetings related to clerical and billing clerk functions. 18. Composes clerk activity/production reports for the manager that take into consideration the total volume of the unit. 19. Responsible for creating, updating & maintaining master clerical, and billing clerk procedure, job aids, and, reference sheets. Also responsible for informing the staff of any changes or updates . 20. Assist with training and continually educate lower levels of support staff. 21. Work closely with supervisors and staff to determine the day-to-d ay priorities. 22. Other duties as assigned II. Non-Resource Scheduling 30% 1. Register patients in GE Business per established protocols . 2. Accurately updates demographic and insurance information in GE Business at each visit entry. 3. Create stand-alone visits in order to capture charges for non-clinic based services according to the SIU Stand Alone Visit Standard of Service. Ill. Back Up Coverage Provides back up coverage for the following: 1. Prepares documents and scans to central medical records database using Paperstream Capture. 2. Checks floor mail and faxes, preps documents, and distributes immediately. 3. Data entry of Follow My Health information in GE Business patient demographics.

Qualifications

- Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months), from the categories below:
- College education with coursework in a medical or para-medical field such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or medical secretary and/or business fields such as business, finance, computer science, public administration, or social science, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Work experience comparable to that performed at the Medical Office Associate level or in other positions of comparable responsibility.
