Columbia University Genome Center within the Department of Systems Biology is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Analyst with strong expertise in bioinformatics, high-throughput sequencing, and single-cell sequencing. The core has extensive collaborations with investigators at Columbia University in studies on biology, human diseases, and precision medicine.

This position will involve the application and development of computational methods for analyzing bulk and single-cell RNA and ATAC sequencing data, as well as new spatial applications, and custom bioinformatics projects from Core users. There will be a focus on GI research, digestive and/or liver disease projects.

Responsibilities

a. Functional Knowledge

20%: Fluency with Python, R, and UNIX. Experience with source code version control systems.

Experience with AWS. Familiarity with next generation sequencing.

b. Problem Solving

20%: Able to apply analytical skills to help problem solve with wet lab members and other bioinformaticians.

c. Decision Making/Autonomy

20%: Works independently to design and execute routine projects with minimal supervision. Works with leadership to execute custom experiments while working in a collaborative research environment.

Requires a moderate degree of independent judgement.

d. Technical Expertise

20%: Required to implement protocols to support projects, using a comprehensive understanding of research techniques, software and instruments.

e. Communication

20%: Assist collaboratively research groups, explain complex information. Contributing in preparation of publications (manuscripts, funding proposals).

Minimum Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree in specific research field and 4 years recommended.

Skills/Other Qualifications

Fluency with Python, R, and UNIX. Experience with source code version control systems. Experience with AWS. Familiarity with next generation sequencing.

Years of Professional Work Experience Required

4 years experience recommended

Minimum Educational Requirements
