Overview

The Department of Public Service (PSD) is seeking a temporary Communications & Engagement Specialist to join the Commissioner's Office. In this role, you'll craft high-quality, impactful communications on policy, legislation, and public information for a range of audiences, including the public and key stakeholders.

Your work will include communications planning and execution, stakeholder engagement, research, documentation, and report preparation. You'll also play a vital role in the Department's legislative affairs efforts by developing and coordinating public outreach, education, and engagement initiatives.

This position is based on-site in Montpelier. There is flexibility in the weekly hours, meaning a full 40-hour schedule is not necessarily required. This position is set to last through September 2025, with the possibility of extension.

This position is considered aPSD Outreach Program Manager by the Department of Human Resources.

Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting, with required travel to field locations and out of state travel for which private means of transportation must be available. Evening and weekend duty may be necessary. Meetings with interest groups and the public will occur, including meetings with irate members of the public which will require good human relations skills and tact.

Minimum Qualifications

Five (5) years or more of professional experience in a wide range of communication and outreach duties such as stakeholder engagement, marketing, emergency/risk/crisis communication, public relations, graphic design, audio/visual production, designing and managing the organizations social media and other communication and networking activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in public relations, communications, marketing, graphic design, or related field.

Professional or volunteer experience in a field related to equity, social justice, and/or diversity/inclusion.
