Position Summary

The Benefits Analyst is responsible for 1) design, evaluation, implementation and ongoing management of STERIS's LOA policies and disability plans, 2) serving as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators to resolve escalated claim, pay, enrollment issues, and 3) ensures compliance with federal and state laws like FMLA and ADA, reviewing medical documentation, advising managers on leave policies, and maintaining accurate leave records.

Ideal candidate will be possessing strong analytical, systems/technical skills, be team oriented, and exhibit initiative while executing and delivering results.

This position is based in our Mentor, OH Corporate office with option for hybrid schedule after introductory onboarding/ training period.

What You'll do as a Benefits Analyst

  • Serves as subject matter expert on leave administration and ensures systems and administrative processes are consistent with compliance requirements
  • Oversees the Leave Management programs and policies, while ensuring regulatory compliance with various Federal, State and Local laws regarding FMLA, short- and long-term disability, state guaranteed leaves of absence, disability accommodation and benefit administration.
  • Facilitates leave requests, including accommodation requests under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Leads the production and management of reporting metrics and analytics for all leave cases. Provide reports as requested
  • Administers other company time-off programs as assigned in accordance with internal policy and applicable laws.
  • Drafts and recommends revisions to company leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Creates training programs and resources that advise managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers' compensation, and short- and long-term disability benefits and other STERIS leave types.
  • Designs and implements ongoing training for managers and HR managers.
  • Oversees the return-to-work process for employees returning from extended FMLA, workers compensation, or other leave(s).
  • Preserves confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
  • Maintains knowledge of all applicable leave and accommodation laws including the FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws
  • Conducts regular audits to identify potential compliance issues and address them promptly.
  • Provides recommendations to department leadership on policy and process changes with applicable laws and complement overall company TR strategy.
  • Leads new program/vendor implementations and/or process improvements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:



  • Bachelors degree.
  • 5 years experience in benefits work experience.
  • Understanding of regulatory framework governing benefits and HR including but not limited to HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, ERISA, ACA, and benefits-related DOL and IRS regulations.


Preferred:



  • Systems orientation with SAP and Benefitfocus System experience.


Skills:



  • Excellent use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
  • Strong analysis and organizational skills; attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both internal and external vendors and customers.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to set priorities, organize, implement and administer effectively in all areas of accountability.
  • Experience with an HRIS system.
  • Demonstrated maturity in dealing with different level of employees.
  • Commitment to confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service.
