Position Summary
Research Technologist III
Purpose
Under general direction develop, improve and implement a variety of laboratory techniques and perform complex experiments to contribute to the timely completion of data.
Primary Functions
- Develop and perform lab research procedures, and carry out routine complex experiments.
- Develop and apply standard quality control procedures to assure quality of test results.
- Demonstrate quality control procedures, provide individual instruction and may indirectly supervise other lab personnel as required.
- Participate in meetings with Principal Investigator and research staff to evaluate, interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies and evaluate lab procedures.
- Create and maintain timely accurate records.
- Operate, calibrate, perform and supervise routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research laboratories.
- Oversee daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or Principle Investigator.
- Must be able to work independently and coordinate with and support efforts by PI and a post-doc
- Expected to mix solutions precisely and maintain complete and accurate records of sample preparation and measurements.
- Samples will be dilute aqueous salt solutions with and without crystals present, along with controlled mixtures of various commercial polymers/proteins.
- Expected to perform various measurements on these solutions, including particle sizing, crystal growth rates using titrator based system under computer control, pH monitorings, FTIR, liquid chromatography, and possibly others. Prior experience in these techniques is not required, as training will be provided on each instrument and method.

Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Minimum Required Experience: 3 years
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field
