Overview

HJF is seeking an Intern in support of the Biotechnology High-Performance Computing Software Applications Institute (BHSAI), located in Frederick, MD. Work will involve performance of a variety of software development and IT (DevOps) tasks related to AI/ML based development of clinical decision support systems. These tasks may include, but are not limited to: data processing, workflow automation, maintaining IT security, and systems testing.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


Responsibilities

  • Write scripts to process, transform, and load (ELT) data for AI/ML development.
  • Assist in automating analyses using Java, Python, R, or other programming languages.
  • Help execute test plans for databases, APIs, and web applications.
  • Support security best practices with conducting vulnerability scans, applying security patches, monitoring security alerts and reviewing system logs for potential threats.
  • Assist in testing disaster recovery readiness.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of computer systems, software, and data processing.
  • Familiarity with programming languages like Python, Java, or R is a plus.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Interest in databases, APIs, and software testing.
  • Awareness of cybersecurity concepts and system monitoring.
  • Strong communication skills.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $17.21-$19.71. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
