Department Overview

This is a key role on a small, high-performing, and dynamic team building the future of PG&E's electrical grid that will reliably and safely deliver affordable and clean energy to our customers and communities. The Grid Operations, Applications, and Transformation (GOAT) team is dedicated to implementing and maintaining PG&E's Operational Technology including the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), which is fundamental to a sustainable energy future and the Grid of Tomorrow. We are seeking an accomplished, integrity-driven, diverse, and collaborative individual to take on the critical Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) Expert role.

Position Summary

The Scada Expert will be responsible for performing complex analysis associated with Electric Scada systems. This individual will provide application solutions and aid the Scada team, customers and other key stakeholders. Conduct system wide auditing, migration, and administration. Test and implement new version vendor application releases. Maintain and support existing SCADA systems, addressing issues, and ensuring optimal performance. SCADA expert needs a strong understanding of electrical systems, SCADA technologies, communication protocols, and programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, 2176, DNP3).

This individual will develop and sustain excellent stakeholder relationships with functional business partners to improve and sustain quality performance to ensure the safe, reliable and accurate Scada data delivery. In this role the individual will be solution driven, expected to communicate clearly, professionally and regularly to Leadership, Scada team, customers and other key stakeholders. Working with the Scada team this individual will share Quality Assurance assessments/results in a manner that is actionable and helps to drive improvement/consistency.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work in diverse teams and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly, concisely, and effectively. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in applying analytical tools, methodologies, and frameworks to solve complex issues and will have strong strategic thinking skills.

  • This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned location based on business need. The position headquarters can be Rocklin, Concord or Fresno.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

Bay Maximum: $200,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • SCADA Support:
    • Provides support guidance, consultation to T&D Operations, Scada team, System Automation and IT personnel, and other users in the development and implementation of SCADA. In addition, is available 24 x 7 for production support of SCADA systems. Maintain ADMS templates and template features for system wide deployment. Maintain SCADA catalogs for state message mapping, tagging, and alarming ect.
  • Compliance and Process Improvement:
    • Implementation of compliance with regulatory standards. Use of best practices and benchmarks to achieve efficient and effective services. Applies specific best practices as appropriate continued improvement in core competencies. Uses industry recognized approaches, methodologies and techniques specific to competency area to deliver quality real-time control and monitoring solutions. Implement and maintain a system wide audit process.
  • SCADA Competancy:
    • This is a fully experienced position: incumbent performs assignments of broad scope and complexity with moderate to high risk and few precedents or standard solutions in an autonomous fashion under general guidance.
  • General
    • The ability to display and apply expert technical aptitude with the management, installation, and utilization of Schneider Electric products or other control systems.
    • Trains SCADA team and others on new technologies, protocols and devices. Recognized as an expert in SCADA and mentors others for knowledge transfer.
    • Uses industry recognized approaches, methodologies and techniques specific to competency area to deliver quality real-time control and monitoring solutions.
    • 3rd tier support analyzing, diagnosing and resolving problems on all aspects of SCADA.
  • Independently plans work to meet assigned general objectives; progress is reviewed upon completion and solutions may provide an opportunity for creative/non-standard approaches.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA or BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related discipline or equivalent experience or technical training
  • 8 years of ADMS SCADA field experience in installing testing and maintaining ADMS SCADA systems and or advanced control systems; relevant experience

Desired:

  • High-level programming skills (C++, etc.)
  • System Dispatch Certification
  • Professional Engineering License
  • Technical Journeyman Certificate
  • Experience with Schneider Electric System products or other control systems.
