THE ROLE:
We are seeking a highly talented and experienced Tax Counsel to join AMD's Tax Research and Planning team. The position involves leading the design and development of tax planning initiatives and transactions, performing research on complex US and international tax issues, leading M&A tax due diligence and integration planning, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement solutions to drive AMD's global tax strategy. In this role, you will work closely with AMD Tax leadership on a variety of high priority projects and transactions. This role offers a unique opportunity for the right candidate to contribute meaningfully to the company's global tax strategy supporting its growth and the development of leading-edge technology. This role reports to the Director of Tax Research and Planning.
THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a solid tax legal background and proven experience developing solutions to address complex tax issues faced by multinational corporations. Excellent analytical and communication skills are required, along with the ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects with competing priorities. The candidate should have strong experience with US and international tax concepts and must be able to excel in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for leading the development, design, and implementation of tax planning initiatives and transactions to drive AMD's global tax strategy
  • Perform technical research and analysis of US and foreign tax laws and regulations to determine impact to the company's tax strategy and legal entity structure
  • Assist with the day-to-day management of tax audits, including research of technical issues, responding to inquiries from tax authorities, and development of audit strategy
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams across AMD to ensure successful implementation of transactions and tax planning initiatives
  • Lead tax due diligence for M&A deals and the development of tax acquisition and integration plans working with cross-functional teams
  • Work closely with AMD Treasury on the design and implementation of strategies to facilitate efficient redeployment of cash throughout the AMD structure
  • Collaborate with the AMD tax provision and compliance team to ensure planning transactions and tax legislative developments are reflected accurately from a tax reporting perspective
  • Assist with review and development of the tax provisions of third-party contracts, intercompany agreements, and other legal documentation
  • Partner with AMD's Government Relation's team on tax policy strategy and priorities
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience working at a law firm or Big 4 public accounting firm focused on complex US and international tax issues
  • Strong experience with US Federal tax, Subchapter C, US international tax, and intercompany reorganizations and restructurings
  • Excellent tax research and analytical skills
  • Proven experience handling multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
  • J.D. required with LL.M (Taxation) or graduate degree in accounting, tax, or a related field preferred
