What You Will Do:

Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a talented Senior Design Architect to grow our team in Chicago. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Chicago office.

As an architect, you play a key role in the design development of a diverse range of project types, including but not limited to commercial, institutional, federal, transportation, and utility sectors. You contribute to both the creative and technical aspects of design, translating conceptual ideas into cohesive architectural solutions. Responsibilities include applying standard architectural principles, techniques, and procedures to support and advance the overall design vision, with a focus on spatial planning, aesthetics, and functional performance.

In the capacity, you will be responsible for the following:

Guiding the architectural vision from concept through execution, ensuring alignment with project goals and client expectations.

  • Leading integrated design efforts with engineering, construction management, and specialty consultants.
  • Managing project deliverables, design schedules, and budgets while maintaining a strong focus on design quality.
  • Participating in client meetings and design workshops to develop and refine project concepts.
  • Translating design ideas into clear, compelling architectural drawings and documents, including conceptual renderings, presentations, construction documents, and specifications.
  • Representing the design intent in coordination with clients, consultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Conducting product and material research to support innovative and sustainable design solutions.
  • Performing code analysis and incorporating regulatory requirements into the design process.
  • Preparing and presenting materials for design review and regulatory approval meetings.
  • Leading detailing efforts to ensure architectural clarity, constructability, and performance.
  • Conducting technical and quality reviews to maintain high design standards.
  • Reviewing shop drawings and responding to RFIs to ensure the built work reflects the design intent.
  • Conducting site observations and generating field reports with a focus on design execution.
  • Collaborating closely with Project Managers and Principals to align project strategy with design objectives.

Additional roles:

  • Mentoring peers in areas of design excellence, detailing, project process, and technical integration.
Education | Experience:

What you will bring to our firm:

  • 10-15+ years of architectural experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a Master of Architecture degree is required.
  • Licensed /Registered Architect in the United States
  • Experience with 3D Modeling software such as Sketch Up Pro, Enscape or similar is desired.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit with experience in both design and construction documentation is required.
  • Ideal candidate must be dynamic, creative, and detail oriented with strong design and graphic skills.
  • Must be effective at communicating with team members, clients, and regulatory officials.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Suite or Bluebeam Revu.
  • Proficient knowledge of building materials and building codes or standards is required, including current International Building Codes, NFPA, ADA, and LEED.
  • Must be able to work effectively in large team environments for multiple projects and independently on smaller assigned tasks.
Compensation:
The range for this position is salary range is $115,000 - $160,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
