Job Description: Lead Transmission Line Engineer
Location: Binghamton, NY or Rochester, NY
Salary: $96,820 - 140,080 Our client is looking for a Lead Transmission Line Engineer to oversee and contribute to Power Grid Utility Underground & Overhead (UG & OH) and Substation Engineering projects. The Lead Transmission Line Engineer will be responsible for preparing or reviewing/approving conceptual designs and detailed engineering packages for HV & MV poles, foundations, and associated infrastructure. Key Responsibilities:
Lead efforts in securing Transmission and Distribution (T&D) projects by identifying active RFPs and developing proposals.
Help build and manage a team of T&D engineers as the U.S. T&D market expands.
Lead detailed design and engineering of 12 kV to 500 kV overhead transmission line projects from conceptual design through construction.
Manage the design of underground transmission line projects from 12 kV to 230 kV.
Conduct feasibility and planning studies.
Prepare detailed project cost estimates, including engineering, materials, and construction.
Develop construction and material specifications and scope documents for tenders and contracts.
Mentor junior engineers and serve as a point of contact for clients and contractors.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams and review work of other engineers and technologists.
Interface with permitting agencies and regulatory bodies.
Perform field reviews during construction.
Take on project engineer and/or project manager roles as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
P.E. registration is required or must be eligible to obtain a P.E. within one to two years.
8-10+ years of experience in transmission line design.
Strong technical expertise in T&D Engineering.
Experience in guiding the design process based on previous project experience.
Proficiency with PLS software suite (PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER).
Ability to perform EMF studies and line loss analysis.
Experience with transmission structure foundation design, including direct embed and concrete pier foundations, is an asset.
Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) is a plus.
Experience with transmission tower structural analysis is an asset.
Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations for transmission line design in the U.S.
Experience with thermal upgrading and line condition assessments is strongly desired.
