Overview

This is a full-time research genetic counselor position. This position will support the Genomic Answer for Kids project and potentially other genomic studies withing the Children's Mercy Research Institute. Specific responsibilities include overseeing the research genetic counselor assistants, communicating with families/patients enrolled in research studies, provide in person and TH genetic counseling related to research studies, work with marketing to create newsletters and updates, present to providers and community groups on various research projects, submit manuscripts/abstracts, supporting research center staff including variant analysts, principle investigators, and laboratory staff with research genetic testing process, track and route samples for research genetic testing, communicate with providers about research study processes and results, medical record review and curation of phenotypes.

This position is intermittent remote. The amount of time is spent on research-based patient interactions vs. other non-patient facing research activities will be variable. This is not a primarily clinical position.

The ideal candidate for this position has 5 years+ of clinical and/or laboratory genetic counseling experience. Research experience would be beneficial. The position reports to the Genetic Counselor

Responsibilities

    - Provides quality inpatient and outpatient clinical care for patients in Clinical Genetics and fifteen subspecialty clinics (FHC, Cardio, Cleft Palate, Craniofacial, etc).
  • - Clinical Leadership: Serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the health care team, community care providers, student learners, family advocacy groups and peer organizations.
  • - Utilizes evidence-based practice principles and participates in performance improvement activities.
  • - Utilizes expertise to control costs facilitating good stewardship of fiscal resources.
  • - Participates in scholarly activities that contribute to the body of knowledge surrounding Genetic Medicine.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree and 5-7 years experience
  • Certified Genetic Counselor
  • MS in Genetic Counseling Required
  • ABGC eligibility Required
  • ABGC certification Required

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $34.90/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.



Remote Work/Work from Home

This is an intermittent remote position, which means that the person hired will work with his or her manager to determine a schedule that includes both at home and on-site hours at a Children's Mercy location. The incumbent must live in the Kansas City metro area.
