Job Summary

The Research Scientist and Lab Manager will carry out research and facilitate operation of the Manthiram Lab.

This is an Organizational Critical position. In the event of an emergency on campus, an employee designated as organizational critical is expected to report to Campus as soon as possible to assist in division/department response and recovery efforts.

Essential Job Duties
  • Lead the architecting, integration, and editing of grants (original submissions and progress reports) and manuscripts emerging from the group.
  • Oversee group leads (group members in charge of particular efforts)
  • Facilitate quarterly reviews in each subgroup; also facilitate yearly all-hands retreat that does this same activity for group as a whole.
  • Be a visible leader in the group and as a daily presence in the lab.
  • Be involved in mentoring and training group members in their science and communication.
  • Be involved in laboratory finances.
  • Be involved in repair and upkeep of lab infrastructure and equipment.
  • Conduct research in areas of mutual interest, including redox and surface-dependent structural biology.
  • Participate in designing lectures and teaching.
  • Meet regularly with principal investigator, with tracking of action items.
  • Other tasks as assigned
Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with at least 3 years research experience.
  • This job requires knowledge of basic principles of chemical engineering, electrochemical measurements, and molecular biology techniques.
  • This position requires an ability to organize and manage laboratory materials and supplies.
  • Motivation, speed of learning and an interest in the area of research are critical for the work.
  • Ability to make decisions with respect to setting priorities for various tasks each day, designing experimental setup, operating instruments and troubleshooting upon unexpected circumstances.
  • Ability to make independent decisions with regard to prioritizing tasks, designing and carrying out experimental procedures and operating the instruments, consulting with principal investigator for trouble shooting when problems arise.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.

Hiring Range

$68,640 - $100,000 Per Year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
