Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Kinesiology offers seven academic programs and a variety of experiences for students. Our academic programs include a BS in Exercise Physiology, BS in Health Fitness Specialist, BS in Physical Education, BS in Sport Studies, MAEd in Physical Education, MS in Kinesiology and a PhD in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science. All of our programs are fully accredited. |
Job Duties |
The postdoctoral scholar is responsible for independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of scientific research in the discipline of exploring mechanisms of maternal exercise in women with obesity on infant health with the goal of integrating whole-body and cellular metabolism. Responsibilities include management of all aspects of in this translational study, the applicant will work with a model of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells to explore mechanisms of fetal cellular metabolism. There are also ample opportunities to work with other primary cell models such as skeletal muscle myotubes from previous studies. The applicant will also be allowed to develop their own individual projects for future
NIH K99 or other funding mechanisms. Hands on multidisciplinary training will be provided in the lab for mitochondrial bioenergetic experiments, radioactive isotope tracing, and numerous other basic biochemistry assays. Moreover, training on grantsmanship and career development will be provided.
Duties include designing and overseeing experiments using cell models, organization and handling of data analyses, and preparation of data for publication in peer-reviewed journals; grant writing; scientific communication of abstracts at national conferences; mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students.
Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety, responsible conduct of research and human subjects training.
Approximately 90% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to research.
Approximately 10% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to managing the day-to-day activity of undergraduate and graduate research students in the laboratory. |
