At our site in Charleston, we are currently looking for aCategory Manager II Equipment to join our growing team.

What you will do:

Wacker Chemical Corporation's Category Manager II, Equipment cooperates with plant management, corporate engineering, and the Head of Technical Procurement for the region. This includes supporting engineering in creating project-specific engineering strategy, creating a project-specific purchasing strategy (coordination with Corporate Engineering), coordination of all project-specific procurement packages using the project procurement plan, which is to be updated continuously, and manage the interface with the regional purchasing organizations.

Additionally, this role supports the Head of Technical Procurement in assuming regional responsibility for equipment. This includes: market analysis, assessment of the current strategic situation and development of alternative courses of action, taking over supplier management for individual suppliers (setting goals, developing measures, tracking implementation); Coordination and enforcement of Procurement interests at the consumer, also at management level, management of tenders (regional) for equipment services (independent tactical analysis, generation of competition, coordination of supplier communication with the consumer , project-specific contract text adjustments).

Wacker Chemical Corporation has procurement staff based in Charleston, Tennessee, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

In such a role, the Category Manager II, Equipment will be responsible for the regional activities including negotiations with suppliers. This is an individual contributor role.

Essential functions of this position:




  • Facilitate the continuous improvement and successful partnership between Wacker's internal customers and suppliers to achieve the lowest total cost of ownership
  • Lead timely preparation for Procurement Monthly Reports, KPI's, forecasts, audits, supplier complaints/claims/evaluations and other reporting as necessary
  • Collaborate effectively with Procurement colleagues in Germany to help develop purchase agreements in a manner that ensures all Wacker requirements and special terms and conditions are met
  • Lead joint meetings with Operations, Technical, EHS, Business Units/Teams and other departments to review requirements, specifications, new or existing sources of supply, forecasts, recommendations for reduced procurement spend, etc.
  • Lead role in developing and implementing negotiation strategies that satisfy the objectives of all Business Units/Teams and production
  • Research and understand the market conditions, advances in technology, supplier performance and economic forecasts
  • Keep Business informed regarding economic conditions, market conditions, lead times and shifts in pricing
  • Provide leadership, guidance and direction to other departments with regards to supplier relations and meeting external customer's expectations



Required education and experience:




  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Procurement, or related discipline required, master's degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 7years prior procurement experience in a large global/multinational company, preferably within the Chemical and Manufacturing Industries
  • Prior leadership role in contract management, RFQ bid process, contract law and Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) preferred
  • Percentage of Travel: 5-10%

  • Can demonstrate strong critical and strategic thinking with strong business acumen and the ability to think beyond function and see 'big picture' to help drive strategic/ sound decision making
  • Can demonstrate strong technical skills: Sourcing process, commodity strategy development, market analysis, e-procurement tools, and supply chain management
  • Can demonstrate strong negotiation skills and tactics, contract management, and strong knowledge of both procurement and logistics terms and conditions.
  • Other demonstrated skills and knowledge: SAP, Microsoft Office, SAP Ariba and other computer software systems
  • Understand and analyze procurement spend data and forecast spend to help drive strategy and results
