PRIMARY PURPOSE Serves as an expert resource, regarding life safety equipment, building systems and regulatory compliance within the healthcare environment. Performs regular inspections of buildings and systems to verify compliance. Performs staff training on building life safety systems, policies and procedures. Assists the Parkland Fire Marshal in the administration of regulatory compliance programs and associated documentation. Oversees the inspection, repair, adjustment and maintenance of various fire protection, life safety, building systems and equipment to ensure a safe physical environment for Parkland patients, staff, volunteers and visitors. Responsibilities: 1. Trains and assists new and entry level life safety coordinators as needed to ensure that staff members are capable of performing and documenting assigned job functions. 2. Works with the Parkland Fire Marshal to develop long term goals, strategies and best practices for achieving and maintaining the highest level of life safety for all Parkland properties. 3. Manage life safety compliance documentation on fire protection systems and equipment to ensure all systems are intact, tested as required and functioning properly. 4. Works directly with senior leadership in the absence of the Parkland Fire Marshal. Provides advice to senior management regarding building life safety systems and programs. 5. Manages documents and programs related to staff training on building fire protection and life safety systems and equipment. Maintains associated records to show compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies. 6. Manages routine meetings with outside vendors and staff as needed. 7. Acts as training lead for Parkland staff to understand the requirements for use and maintenance of fire and life safety systems and equipment. 8. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer, internal and external, satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and missions of Parkland in order to improve departmental performance and effectiveness. 9. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines which impact fire and life safety systems at Parkland. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements and federal/state/private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. 10. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of fire protection and life safety by attending seminars, workshops and professional journals. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
