Practice Advancement Associates (PAA), a division of JHI's Professional Publications Group, provides strategic planning and multi-platform communications programs for optical manufacturers, retailers, vendors, ECPs, optometric associations, and alliances. Specifically, PAA conceptualizes, creates, and manages business education programs, custom print publications, and digital programs geared to helping optometrists and retailers manage the business aspects of their practice with proficiency and success. PAA produces Review of Optometric Business , an online journal focused on the optometry market, as well as ancillary projects, microsites, and sponsored events under the ROB title. In addition, PAA produces a host of custom publications/websites, chief among them Women in Optometry , which has matured as a title to support professional meetings and reports, and Review of Myopia Management and AI in Eye Care, online journals that focuses on the emerging field of myopia management and the use of AI in the industry and practices, respectively.
General Description:
The Editor helps conceptualize content and special projects with professional and lay editors and content creation. This includes overseeing text and digital (e.g. video) content. The Editor also supports development of content for live meetings. The role includes working primarily with RMM and AI in Eye Care but also across the PAA platforms to create synergies in developing and managing original content, vendor-support content and new item scheduling and production on web and social platforms. The Editor is responsible for writing compelling copy, editing manuscripts on practice management and business topics, and consistently finding creative new ways to connect with readers, in print and online.
Job Responsibilities:
Organizational:
  • Manage content renewal for ReviewOfMM.com and AI in Eye Care, online publications for eye care practitioners
  • Post articles to RMM and AI in Eye Care websites
  • Manage and improve content, functions on website as well as expand reach of platforms
  • Perform regular updates (noncoding) of RMM and AI in Eye Care website
Editorial:
  • Work with Medical Editors and Executive Editor to execute content plan each month
  • Assign articles per professional and lay editor for posting to RMM and AI websites
  • Write articles on an as-needed basis
  • Copy edit articles for style; Medical Editors will review and edit articles for accuracy
  • Write and post News Briefs based on press releases, interviews and other informational resources
Promotional:
  • Write twice-monthly Bulletin e-blast copy and News Brief eblasts
  • Create, post, track, and manage social media posts
  • Cross-promote with other PAA and Jobson publications
  • Interface with Jobson editorial and research departments to coordinate sharing of Jobson editorial content, including professional surveys and reports on survey findings
Operational:
  • Develop and manage a growing network of professional contributors and business writers who provide content
  • Maintain twice-monthly editorial lineup and eblast schedules using shared spreadsheets
  • Direct logistics for videos and podcasts, edit when necessary
  • Participate in ancillary events and projects (special reports, symposia, webinars, podcasts, etc.)
  • Participate in reader analytics reviews
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications required
  • 2+ of editorial experience (magazine and online writing, editing, and production) required
  • Demonstrated experience in managing writers/editors, schedules, and budgets
  • Ability to manage websites, online design, reader analytics, and keep current on web technology
  • Ability to coordinate multiple responsibilities and projects and work with a high level of autonomy
