Grady Health System seeks a visionary and dynamic Chief of Surgery. As the largest public hospital in Georgia and a critical healthcare provider in the Southeast, Grady is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care, advancing medical education, and conducting impactful research.

The Chief of Surgery will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Acute Care Surgery Service (Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care). Additionally, the Chief of Surgery will be responsible for strategic leadership, clinical oversight, faculty development, quality assurance, research initiatives, and innovation in surgical care. This individual will serve as a key leader within the institution and will work in close collaboration with Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine to support Grady's tripartite mission of patient care, education, and research.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership and Operations:

a. Lead the strategic planning and direction of surgical services aligned with Grady's mission, vision, and values.

b. Collaborate with executive leadership and service line chiefs to grow surgical programs and expand access to care.

2. Clinical Oversight:

a. Ensure high-quality, safe, and evidence-based surgical care delivery across all clinical settings.

b. Drive initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce complications, enhance outcomes, and streamline patient flow.

c. Oversee credentialing, privileging, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

3. Academic and Educational Excellence:

a. Champion an environment of continuous learning, innovation, and academic excellence.

b. Mentor faculty, fellows, residents, and students, promoting leadership development and academic productivity.

4. Research and Innovation:

a. Support clinical and translational research initiatives in surgery and surgical subspecialties.

b. Promote the integration of cutting-edge research into clinical practice.

c. Encourage faculty to pursue grant opportunities, publications, and thought leadership in their fields.

5. Faculty Development and Culture:

a. Recruit, retain, and develop a high-performing, diverse surgical faculty.

b. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and equitable departmental culture.

c. Evaluate faculty performance, provide feedback, and guide career progression.

6. Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement:

a. Lead departmental efforts in quality assurance, patient safety, and performance metrics.

b. Utilize data-driven approaches to monitor and improve surgical outcomes.

c. Coordinate with the Chief Quality Officer and other departments on system-wide improvement efforts.

7. Community and Institutional Engagement:

a. Represent Grady with community stakeholders.

b. Participate in institutional committees, advocacy, and public health initiatives impacting surgical care.

8. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.

2. Completion of an ACGME-accredited surgical residency and surgical critical care fellowship.

3. Board certification in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.

4. Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Georgia.

5. A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in surgery within an academic medical center or major health system.

6. Demonstrated experience in faculty development, clinical excellence, and quality improvement.

7. A strong academic record, including research and publication history (preferred).
