PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:



  • Verify freight bills for assigned accounts by ensuring that the amount charged by the carrier agrees with the rates on file for the customer. If an overcharge exists, reduce the bill to the correct dollar amount and cite the authority.
  • Develop and maintain auditing procedures for all assigned accounts.
  • Requests all missing rate information in accordance with procedures.
  • Review rating output on daily audit exception reports and advises rate database staff of any additions or corrections to be made.
  • Research all balance due bills for accuracy and prior payment in accordance with procedures.
  • Recommend changes and other enhancements which will improve the overall efficiency and quality of processing.
  • Respond to customer service inquiries as required.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



  • An understanding of international carrier pricing, tariff and contract rate application.
  • Working knowledge of batch processing systems.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to perform with minimal supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills to represent the department to customers and others.
  • Capable of handling standard audit applications.
  • Cursory knowledge of automation tools and how they are used.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and associates.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite and internet.


MINIMUM LEVEL OF PREPARATION AND TRAINING NORMALLY REQUIRED:



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Position requires a theoretical understanding of transportation strategies and rate applications and interpretation similar to that acquired in an academic field of study.
  • 3-5 years of rating experience with a carrier, shipper, or equivalent Cass experience.
