CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT JOB PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Superintendent's duties include, but are not limited to: Coordination of all site construction activities and supervising all field personnel as required to complete the project successfully on schedule and within budget. This includes maintaining the highest quality and supervising all trade and field personnel, while ensuring adherence to good construction safety practices for all on-site activities. Maintains the job site office and closes out projects.

As a working superintendent, this role requires hands-on involvement in the field. Superintendents must be capable of jumping in alongside the crew to perform tasks when needed and must lead by example. A key responsibility is training and mentoring team members directly at the point of execution, ensuring skill development and quality workmanship throughout the project lifecycle.

Superintendents are also expected to think and act like project leaders-making daily decisions that directly impact jobsite efficiency and overall profitability. This role has a clear ability to enhance profitability by managing labor productivity, minimizing rework, optimizing material usage, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Coordinates and supervises all construction activities.

* Directs all field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications.

* Maintains construction schedule, identifies and solves problems.

* Orders materials and schedules inspections as necessary throughout the process.

* Understands the project plans and specifications.

* Maintains positive relationships with customers, subcontractors, suppliers and other employees.

* Prepares, schedules and supervises completion of a final punch list.

* Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices and rectifies job site hazards immediately.

* Ensures all company employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policy.

* Maintains an organized job site, including the construction office.

* Maintains daily log of activities, site conditions, and equipment log.

* Ensures accurate daily documentation of work orders and understands subcontractor scope of work to avoid unnecessary change orders.

* Able to identify changed conditions, document, and track time for project changes.

* Understands SSPC/AAMP requirements and guidelines for abrasive blasting, coating application, and working containments.

* Understands AWS welding codes and requirements on the project.

* Understands engineered drawings and is able to guide the field personnel in building scaffolding and/or work platforms for various structures.

* Provides on-the-job training to field staff, demonstrating proper techniques and ensuring tasks are completed according to standards and specifications.

* Actively assists with construction work as necessary to meet project goals, eliminate delays, and develop crew proficiency.

* Monitors and controls labor and material usage to positively influence project costs and profitability.

* Collaborates with project managers to identify efficiency improvements, reduce waste, and enhance bottom-line outcomes.

* Two-year College/Tech Degree in Construction Management preferred, but not mandatory, or a minimum of 5 years of successful experience as a Superintendent or leading projects.

* Strong work ethic and attention to detail.

* Ability to read Project Plans, Engineered Drawings, As-Built Drawings, and understand Specifications.

* Working knowledge of Construction Management Software, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Internet.

* Strong competency with computer and software programs and good keyboard/typing skills.
