About the Role

We're looking for an On-Call Scientist I to join our Environmental Planning & Compliance team in Seattle to support upcoming projects and workload. This position will be on an on-call basis with duration and schedule of assignments dependent on project needs.

You will support multiple environmental documentation and permitting efforts-fish habitat surveys, fish exclusions, as well as wetland delineation and permitting for transportation and infrastructure improvements. You will contribute through field surveys, data collection, analysis, and technical reporting with a focus on streams, wetlands, fish and wildlife, and sensitive habitats across the Pacific Northwest.

You Will:

  • Support fieldwork for fish surveys and habitat assessments, including fish exclusion and salvage efforts
  • Assist with wetland delineations and ordinary high water mark (OHWM) surveys
  • Travel to field sites within the Puget Sound area and conduct fieldwork in varied weather and physical conditions (e.g., navigating heavy brush, working in water, and traversing uneven terrain)
  • Collect, manage, and analyze environmental data
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documents such as wetland delineation reports, critical area reports, biological assessments, and OHWM determinations
  • Help develop natural resource permit applications
  • Work both independently and collaboratively to meet project goals and deadlines

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, or a related field
  • At least 1 year of experience conducting biological and/or wetland fieldwork in the Pacific Northwest
  • Familiarity with local fish species, aquatic habitat, flora, fauna, and soils
  • Strong technical writing skills for biological and permitting documentation
  • Willingness and physical ability to conduct strenuous fieldwork in all weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on fish passage, stream restoration, or fish barrier removal projects
  • WPIT certification or completion of a wetland/wildlife/ecological certificate program (University of Washington, Portland State University, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • GPS and ArcGIS experience
