Job Title: Grinder

Department: Grinding

Summary

The Grinder operates heavy-duty grinding equipment to finish large industrial alloy products. This is a physically demanding role requiring strength, endurance, and attention to safety. The work involves lifting, holding, and maneuvering grinding tools that may be extended in front of or above the body for extended periods. Candidates must be comfortable working in an industrial environment with dust, noise, and heat, and wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE), including face shields and respirators. The Grinder plays a critical role in ensuring product quality and traceability throughout the production process.

Responsibilities

  • Operate industrial grinders (angle, vertical, belt, and flat wheel) in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Grind and polish large metal pipes and components according to job router specifications.
  • Work with grinders that require overhead and extended-reach operation for prolonged periods.
  • Wear all required PPE at all times, including face shields, respirators, gloves, and protective clothing.
  • Load and unload heavy materials, carefully preventing damage and ensuring safety.
  • Inspect product for flaws and measurements; take corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain material traceability and ensure router matches product before starting work.
  • Sign off and verify work from previous departments before beginning each job.
  • Accurately read tape measures and interpret shop instructions.
  • Perform daily start-up, shutdown, and basic maintenance on grinding equipment and dust collectors.
  • Maintain an organized and safe workspace, keeping walkways and exits clear.
  • Communicate shift updates and coordinate with coworkers and incoming team members.
  • Assist other departments when needed to support production flow.
  • Train or guide helpers as assigned.
  • Perform thorough housekeeping duties before and after each shift.


Qualifications

  • Ability to handle physically demanding work, including overhead grinding and holding heavy tools for extended periods.
  • Must be able to wear and work in full PPE, including a respirator and face shield.
  • Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail.
  • Ability to read and follow written job instructions and use a tape measure accurately.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Comfortable working in a loud, dusty, and hot industrial environment.


Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • One year of related training or work experience may substitute for formal education.
