The salary range for this role is:

Responsibilities:

The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation and control systems critical to food manufacturing operations. This role ensures the accuracy and functionality of equipment related to temperature, pressure, flow, level, and other process variables to maintain product quality, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. The technician works closely with production, quality assurance, and engineering teams to support efficient and consistent manufacturing processes.

  • Install, calibrate, and maintain process instrumentation including sensors, transmitters, analyzers, and control devices.
  • Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation malfunctions to minimize production downtime.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Assist in programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems as needed.
  • Document calibration activities and maintain accurate records per food safety and quality assurance protocols.
  • Collaborate with production and QA teams to ensure instruments are operating within defined tolerances.
  • Participate in capital projects and support commissioning of new equipment or process lines.
  • Follow plant safety rules, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, and arc flash protocols.
  • Will be required to complete and maintain material and parts lists.
  • May be called upon to provide both electrical and instrumentation support to a shift.
  • Will be required to do installation, calibration, adjustment or repair of electronic and pneumatic equipment and components.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or technical certification in instrumentation, electronics, or a related field
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in instrumentation or controls, preferably in a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic and calibration tools.
  • Familiarity with control systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA), especially Allen-Bradley or Siemens systems.
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation principles (flow, temperature, pressure, level, pH, etc.).
  • Must be able to make and ready sketches, prints, P & ID diagrams, circuit drawings, and operating instructions and apply such logic to process improvement and troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to perform basic operating maintenance on 120 and 24 Volt, mili - amp and mili - volt systems, including wiring, calibration, and troubleshooting of motors, servo motors, switches, relays, controllers, power supplies, and communication components.
  • Must be well versed in the basic principles of electronic sensing and control. Must be able to apply each of these principles to process improvement.
  • Must be capable of reading and writing PLC code, and troubleshooting Allen - Bradley PLC systems.
  • Must be prepared to work closely with employees from other crafts and assist machine operators in understanding process and machine logic.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and on rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required.
