What You'll Do
- Your responsibilities will include the management and oversight of the regional exploration operation, including safety management, training, and equipment management
- Your responsibilities will include managing the regional exploration teams located throughout various regional markets
- Develop communicative trusting bonds with and between Department, Office, and Regional Managers across the operating group
- Promote the safety, profitability, growth, and quality of Geotechnical and Environmental Site Characterization via Exploration Services (utilizing both both internal and external resources) on shore, near shore, and offshore
- Responsibilities will also include overall scheduling and oversight of exploration location layout and drilling, field testing, coordination of the obtaining of access permits when applicable
- Responsible for the financial performance of the overall exploration services operation as well as day-to-day technical and operation duties
- Train, develop, manage, and supervise both existing and new exploration team members
- Develop, identify, and assess opportunities for growth and drive recruiting and onboarding of key hires
- Manage the exploration services operation for sustainable growth with a strong emphasis on safety, productivity, exploration team technical growth, capacity development, and client development
- Provide overall operational and technical support for exploration services, seismic testing, and subsurface exploration processes
- Evaluate and Track the effectiveness of approaches and implement improvements. Implement Strategic and annual Operations Plan initiatives within Exploration Services
- Manage administrative and field activities for the exploration services regional operation
- Review employee time and expense sheets ensuring that all hours worked and all field activities and expenses are correctly recorded and coded for billing
- Responsible for exploration equipment procurement, exploration equipment maintenance, exploration support, transport vehicle maintenance, and state/federal compliance and documentation
- Work with operations leadership to develop and implement a strategy for capital purchases and ongoing budget planning for exploration resources
- Develop, execute and/or monitor the initiatives of exploration services
- Provide leadership and direction on exploration best practices and equipment utilization/fleet management/load leveling in partnership with operations leadership
- Responsible for company, client, and project-specific procedures, standards, etc., being communicated to the exploration team personnel and confirmation that they are implemented
- Participate in a leadership role in standardizing and supporting change adoption of companywide processes for the service line
- Collaborate with other exploration services stakeholders to develop and deliver coordinated and consistent exploration services across the company
- Lead innovative, creative, and progressive approaches to site characterization
- Drive the understanding of project-related risks and assist local operations with reducing project risks by anticipating project risks and implementing mitigating measures
- Be familiar with company risk policies and serve as or support for large, complex, and/or high-risk projects
- Promotes safe working practices on all projects use of proper PPE
- Drive for the meeting of productivity goals and project deadlines
- Responsible for recruiting personnel, evaluating of personnel, and maintaining appropriate staff levels
- Development of exploration managers as leaders through ongoing coaching and mentoring
- Support exploration manager training, orientation, and development via weekly and monthly Exploration Manager calls to maintain strong communications throughout the service line and across regional markets
- Manage and maintain sufficient inventory of supplies and equipment
- Develop standardized training for exploration team members
- Provide training to staff personnel in accordance with company policy and procedures
- Provide senior-level program management for highly visible, large-impact projects
- Prepares cost estimates for operation
- Prepare and coordinate field testing schedule with subcontractors when appropriate
- Review and negotiate subcontractor proposals, invoices, and terms and conditions
- Train staff on field testing and sampling techniques, data reduction, and data interpretation
- Additional responsibilities may include construction materials testing and geotechnical project management, report reviews, proposal preparation, managing budget proposals and invoices, and participation in marketing our services by maintaining and developing client interactions
- Participate and lead strategic initiatives to support the overall growth, profitability, and expansion of exploration service line
- Support additional initiatives as assigned
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Business or Accounting preferred
- 20+ years of related experience geared towards subsurface exploration utilizing multiple exploration methods such as SPT drilling, CPT Drilling, managing drill crews, managing exploration equipment, managing heavy equipment truck fleet, managing projects, and managing contracts
