The Part-Time Medical Education Specialist develops, coordinates, and delivers fire-service-focused medical training programs to ensure that firefighters, EMTs, and other first responders maintain current life-saving certifications and competencies. This role supports the Fire Department's operational readiness by aligning curricula with American Heart Association guidelines and NFPA standards

- Curriculum Development:
- Design and update training programs for CPR, first aid, Stop the Bleed, and other emergency medical courses..
- Create instructor guides, participant manuals, presentations, and practical skills checklists tailored for fire personnel.
- Instruction & Facilitation:
- Deliver on-shift and off-shift AHA BLS and First Responder CPR classes at the Fire Training Center and off-site classes as needed.
- Lead hands-on skill drills, live-burn scenarios, and mass-casualty simulations with embedded medical objectives.
- Program Coordination:
- Schedule, track, and manage department-wide certification classes and renewals.
- Maintain accurate records of instructor credentials and participant certifications within the learning management system.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Audit training outcomes and participant performance to ensure alignment with AHA and NFPA standards.
- Implement continuous improvements and coordinate protocol updates with the EMS Medical Director.
- Collaboration:
- Partner with the Training Chief, EMS Coordinator, and shift officers to integrate medical training into annual drills.
- Liaise with external agencies (e.g., county EMS, regional training consortiums) as needed.
Perform other work as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to understand, interpret, and explain medical requirements and regulations. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, city officials, and the general public. Ability to communicate information tactfully and impartially, both in person and in writing with all staff, city officials, and the general public. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the City of Winter Park Core Competencies. Ability to work as a member of a team.

Typical Qualifications

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrate CPR and other life-saving techniques-including prolonged chest compressions and AED use-multiple times per session.
- Stand, kneel, bend, and move training mannequins and equipment (up to 50 lbs.) during sessions up to 4 hours.
- Familiarity with NFPA 1001/1021 standards and Firefighter Safety Officer practices.
- Meet departmental fitness standard:
- Cardiovascular endurance to perform uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes.
- Functional strength to position and carry training equipment.
Schedule & Working Conditions
- Part-time (20-24 hours per week) with flexible scheduling covering day, evening, and weekend shifts.
- Primarily based at the Fire Training Center, with occasional station-based instruction.

Environmental Tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, sun, extreme temperatures, odors, dirt and dust, high voltage, gas lines, loud noises, and hazardous chemicals, etc. Sensory Tasks require the ability to detect and distinguish various features of one's surroundings by color, sound, taste, odor, depth, texture, visual perception and discrimination, and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange this information with others.
