The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is currently seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Superintendent - Light Railcar Maintenace. The Assistant Superintendent - Light Railcar Maintenance is pivotal in supporting the Superintendent of Light Railcar Maintenance by effectively managing, planning, and coordinating administrative functions within the Railcar Maintenance Department. This leadership position entails guiding railcar staff and consultants, overseeing personnel administration, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and actively contributing to enhancing organizational performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to railcar staff and consultants within the Railcar Maintenance Department.
  • Oversee daily review of light rail vehicle documentation, manage Railcar shops, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations, including reporting incidents or accidents in line with OSHA 300 guidelines.
  • Assist in developing and implementing railcar maintenance procedures, conducts the annual review of Special Operating Procedures (SOPs), and manages shop safety oversight.
  • Collaborate closely with the superintendent and supervisors to address operational deficiencies, budget concerns, and labor issues.
  • Assist the Superintendent in evaluating and resolving current and potential issues, manages solution implementation, and prepares correspondence and technical reports.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a mass transit system and/or related operations that required the resolution of operational problems related to scheduled service, equipment failure, equipment maintenance, inclement weather, or other service disruptions. One year of the required experience must have involved supervisory or program management responsibilities.

Notes:
1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to four years of the required non-supervisory experience.

3. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Experience Requirement of the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses & Certifications

1. Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in this classification who are assigned to Field Operations (Bus Transportation) will be assigned duties that require a valid State of Maryland Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with a Passenger (P) endorsement.
